Our Story

Our Story.

They often say that you have already met your husband or wife long before knowing that you’ll marry them. The year was 2021 — the first time Matthew and Kendall met. They were at a formal party with their respective dates, having no idea that the Lord was going to bring them together to be married.

About two years later, the Lord presented both Kendall and Matthew with new and unique seasons of life. They both started attending a small group at King’s Church and soon realized they secretly had a crush on each other. Matthew would tell friends, “Man, I would love to take Kendall Chapman out on a date, but I don’t know if she would ever say yes.” While Kendall would think to herself, “If only Matthew Ide would man up and take me on a date !” Matt would sit in small group and look at Kendall, thinking, “Wow, she is the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met.” Both just needed the Lord and his helpers to give each other a bit of a nudge (really just Matthew).

Thankfully, Nolon and Logan Blaylock saw all of this, and the Lord used them to give us the nudge we needed. One Sunday, Nolon came up to Matthew and said, “Remember when you told me you wanted to take out Kendall? Well, you have the green light.” And so it began. Matthew planned out how he would ask out Kendall, and one Friday afternoon, Matthew dialed a phone call that would change his life.

Kendall said yes to a first date at the National Cathedral coffee shop where they enjoyed being together for hours. A few days later, they went on another date to a burger spot on Capitol Hill and closed the place down. Weeks later, they made it “official” after a home cooked meal.

Over the summer, they took on exciting adventures together - hikes, baseball games, and trips to hometowns. Matthew knew that this was a different relationship and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. And thankfully, Kendall felt the same way.

On October 12th, a warm fall morning, Matthew received Kendall at the Supreme Court, got down on a knee, told her he loved her, and asked her to marry him. She said yes and their relationship flashed before them - every date, every trip, and every moment they spent together. On June 7th, the Lord will bring them together as one.

Over this past year, they have felt so lucky to have such great friends and family who have shown them what it means to be loved and to love well, to point them towards the Lord, and to live in community. This is such a special time in their lives, and they are so very thankful for the people that the Lord has surrounded them with. They are so excited to celebrate with you all on June 7!
