It was a Sunday night in December. Post her first 5k race, Kendall wanted to celebrate. While playing pool at a local bar called Jillian’s, Kendall’s eyes locked with Sam and interest was peaked. The two started talking and kept talking the rest of the night. They played pool, grabbed a few drinks at the bar, and didn’t stop talking about all the things they have in common. Both from Maine, they discovered mutual friends and places they both enjoyed in the state. They parted ways at the end of the night, both knowing they had found something special. They hung out almost daily following that first date and haven’t stopped laughing, talking and being each other’s best friend. Kendall moved away to Washington DC to complete her degree. Throughout the year, the distance made them realize they couldn’t imagine their life without each other. Kendall and Sam decided to move in together after DC and have made the north end of Boston their home for the last four years. Both found new jobs, attended weddings and celebrations, and continued to find the joy in their lives, while pushing each other to grow and experience life in new ways. In the summer of 2018, Kendall dreamed of traveling to Spain to complete the Camino de Santiago, an 800 km trek across the north of Spain. With Sam’s support and love, she took off for this journey with her mom and some friends along the way. Sam joined Kendall for the last few days and provided much need support as they crossed the finish line and arrived at the Cathedral de Santiago in Santiago de Compostela. Little did Kendall know, Sam was carrying a certain something along the way. After a dinner with many of the friends Kendall had met, Sam surprised Kendall with a proposal on one knee in front of the Cathedral with all of their friends (who captured the whole thing on video thanks to Sam’s ingenious planning) and a crowd of fellow pilgrims. They both kept expressing how happy they were and how excited they were for the future! They spent the night celebrating in style with the people they’ll never forget after an experience that changed their lives forever.
