Her Point of View:
I woke up the morning of January 2, 2016, feeling spontaneous. For those of you who know me, that is one of the last words used to describe me! Also, mix in my desire that day to 'go out' and you'd think I had hit my head and had a total personality change.
But, I didn't, and so I called my friend Lexy, who I have known since we were eight-years-old and asked if she wanted to go to a bar and watch the College Football Playoffs. She had just moved to San Jose, and I had not seen her apartment yet so we figured this would be a great idea! We went to The Yard House in Santana Row, drank a bunch of wine, had little apps, and watched a ton of football. After seeing our bill, and that we got one of the bottles of wine comp'd, we knew it was a sign and that we had to go out.
I had never been to Downtown San Jose before but it was only a mile from Lexy's new place and for some reason I was Spontaneous Kendall for the night. We walked into The Wagon Wheel, and went outside to grab a drink. As soon as I walked out, I saw this tall bearded man in a peacoat. He stuck out from the crowd, so much so, it was like a movie, where everyone else faded away and all I saw was him. Corny, I know, but true! We were standing near the outside bar when a man walked up to us, started talking, and motioned over to his "buddies" over there. In that same group was the tall bearded man I saw earlier. I asked what his deal was and the man answered, "Oh, thats my brother."
I don't know if it was the wine, or Spontaneous Kendall, but something in me pushed me into walking over to him, sticking my hand out, and saying "Hi, I'm Kendall". He gave me his left hand....what? I looked at him confused. He then tells me his hurt his finger on his right hand, and didn't want people touching it. That's when he flipped me off, showing me his hurt finger. So, you know, I had to flip him off right back. He laughed, and I knew he was a keeper. Thats when I learned his name. Justin. We talked for 10 seconds, but it was actually 3 hours. I noticed he had the most beautiful blue eyes, and loved his family. His face lit up when he talked about baseball and his friends. I remember wanting him to kiss me so badly. He asked for my number, and put it in his phone. He then called me so I could have his number.
Next thing I know, lights were coming on, Lexy came up to me and said we have to go, and Justins friends grabbed him too. I wanted more time, but obviously the night was over. I didn't know if I would ever see him again, because he lived far away from me. But hey, guess we made it work ;)
His Point of View:
I wasn't even going to go out that night. It was the day after New Years, and I got talked in to going out by my brother Jared, and my best friend David. I didn't want to go out because I had just gotten back from Lake Tahoe, and was exhausted. But I went anyway. We all walked into the Wagon Wheel in Downtown San Jose, and I was hanging out with my buddies. We were having a few drinks outside, and the next thing I knew is two girls walked up to us. One of them introduced themselves to me, and said "Hi, my name is Kendall", and she stuck her hand out to shake mine. I gave her my left hand, because I had recently sliced open my middle finger on my right hand, and didn't want people to touch it. She asked me why I gave her my left hand, and I showed her my hurt finger. My middle finger. She laughed and flipped me off right back.
From there, we got drinks, and talked for what felt like 10 minutes, but really, was three hours. As we were talking, I was thinking 'wow this girl is amazing, she knows more about sports than I do!'. I knew I couldn't let her go until I got her number, because I also knew I had to see her again.
The lights in the bar started to come on, and my buddies said we had to leave. We called an Uber, and got in. I saw her walk out of the bar with her friend Lexy, and waved. She didn't see me, and I thought to myself 'This could be the last time that I ever see this girl'.
As we know now, it wasn't, and to say I am glad I ended up going out that night, would 100% be an understatement.
