"Can I use American dollars or card while in Guatemala?"
Yes. We don't recommend paying in dollars as you will be over paying for things since the Quetzal is worth less than the dollar. However, it depends where you're at. Restaurants all will most likely accept debit/credit cards. (be aware of foreign fee's from your bank if any. you can contact your bank and ask if there are any fees) We recommend taking out Quetzal's from one of the bank ATMs just in case you are somewhere (like an activity up in the mountains or in the park) where people are selling things that don't accept card. 99% of the time that you're in Antigua, debit or credit is accepted.
Is Antigua a "walkable" city?"
YES! one of the main reasons we love this city so much. we recommended bringing tons of comfortable walking shoes, as the streets are cobblestones(Antigua does have sidewalks!) and we wouldn't want anyone wearing the wrong shoes or hurting their feet. Save the cute shoes for the wedding ladies and gents!
"Is Guatemala Safe?"
The short is YES. Guatemala is a very safe country. Antigua specifically is a huge tourist spot with individuals coming from all over the globe. Traveling through Guatemala is safe. All hotel hire drivers that come from reputable companies as they will know areas to avoid on long trips. Of course it depends what you are doing as well. We don't ever recommend traveling in the middle of the night alone in a foreign country you don't know.
