We wanted to take the time to look back at all of the special parts of our 6.5 years together and wanted to highlight the most significant details to us from each of our own point of view. While these are lengthy, they perfectly capture the many years, feelings, and love that we have been blessed to share, and include ALL of the very best details (& pictures!!!) from both of our perspectives. Enjoy :)

In October of 2018, Sully asked me to be his date to homecoming. We somewhat knew each other at the time from Snapchat, having a few classes together, and mutual friends. We didn’t know each other super well but I got word from a friend (thanks Liz) that Sully was planning on asking me to homecoming and that I needed to be cute on the night that he came to ask me. Sully didn’t know that I knew and I remember acting like I was so surprised that he was at my house, even though he had to ask Liz for my address, and obviously Liz was going to tell me exactly what was happening. So, when the night that Sully was supposed to ask me arrived, I was already ready. I remember sitting upstairs in my room and hearing the loudest car sounds going back and forth outside of my house. I looked out my window and saw Sully attempting, and failing, to pull his stick shift car into my driveway (he must’ve been nervous??). Sully then came to the front door with a cute sign and one of my favorite treats at the time - a Cheerwine float from Cookout - which also happened to be a funny joke between me, some of my friends, and him. I obviously said yes to going to homecoming with him and we took our first picture ever on my front porch (featured below). The night of homecoming was on Saturday, October 13, 2018, and we met up with friends for pictures and dinner before the dance. While it was Sully and my first time ever hanging out, we talked each others ears off and the entire night flowed perfectly. We truly had the best time talking and getting to know each other, joking, and laughing the entire time. I look back and realize how much we hit it off that first night, and how we completely bypassed any awkward stage. I am confident in finding my perfect match with Sully that night because of how easily we got along, how well he was able to match my goofiness and make me laugh, and even before we knew each other well, it felt like we had known each other forever. The dance ended with Sully asking me to slow dance to the last song that was played, and we “romantically” shared our first dance in the Mauldin High School cafeteria with all of my friends watching us. Sully drove me home that night and as he got out of the car to walk me to the door, he kissed me. I remember being SO surprised because I wasnt expecting him to do that (as it was our first time spending time together) but I remember going inside and being so happy at how perfectly our night turned out!! The next day Sully posted a picture of us at homecoming and “brought his Instagram out of retirement for a special night with his girl”, per his Instagram caption. I could really tell he started liking me (thinking about this now - calling me “his girl” after 1 night is WILD), and I was feeling the same way, and we just started moving from there. A week later on October 20, 2018, Sully and I had our first real date. We had dinner at Chick-Fil-A, went to the movie theater to watch Venom, and went with another couple to the Madworld haunted house. The line was insanely long that night, and we waited for hours and hours to get in. It didnt feel like a lot of waiting because of how much fun Sully and I were having in line talking and goofing off. The couple we were with ended up leaving around midnight as it did not seem like we were going to get in before close. Sully and I stayed and wanted to stick it out since we had waited for so long, but we ended up leaving shortly after because we were not going to make it in, and it was so late. He drove me home and when he walked me to the door asked me to be his girlfriend. I distinctly remember him saying “I want to make you mine forever” (when you know you know I guess)!! I was absolutely shocked, once again, because I was not planning on starting to date the boy that I had just started getting to know only a week before, but I did in fact say yes, right in front of my garage door, and this coming October 20, 2025 we will celebrate 7 years together, all thanks to that night. We finished the rest of high school with lots of friend group hangouts, many Mauldin High School involvements, sporting events, and fun (and an “I love you” from Sully a month into us dating:)). Senior year came, then graduation, and then time to go to our separate colleges. We spent a very (very) emotional last day of summer together before saying goodbye when Sully left early for Anderson University Basketball. We were still dating and wanted to try our hardest throughout college to maintain the nearly 2 year relationship that we had established and poured so much love into. While our schedules were EXTREMELY busy and seasons were changing in college, what stayed consistent was me and Sully. Some weeks were better than others time-wise, but no matter what, we always tried to put each other first to maximize the time that we did get. We had to grow a lot in understanding and communication, and our relationship looked a whole lot different during our 4 years of college than it did in high school. Things were different going from attending the same school, being in the same friend group, and seeing each other daily to primarily communicating over text and Facetime, and seeing each other once every week or two, if even that. We both made our commitment and love for each other very known during this time, and both knew that we wanted to be together and stick our relationship out (and we did)!! While we had many separate memories throughout college, Sully I enjoyed plenty of dates, Clemson football, a lot of Anderson Basketball games, late-night treats, Sunday Church, many ZTA functions, lots of color coordinating outfits, and 4 years of choosing and loving each other above all else. Senior year of college came around and after dating for 5.5 years, we knew that we wanted to get married and be together forever. My spring break rolled around in March, which is where this story really gets really really fun :)!!! Sully had Spring Break 2 weeks earlier and went on a trip with his friends. I had a trip planned with 7 close girl friends of mine to Naples Florida. One of my roommate’s grandparents has a house down there, so we flew down to stay for the week. During our trip, it was 2 of the girls’ birthdays, so to celebrate, the grandparents whose house we were staying at, arranged for us to stay at a beachfront resort for 2 days during the trip. The night that we were at the resort we had made reservations at a nice restaurant to celebrate the girls’ birthdays early and had planned on dressing up in our “best show-stopping dresses”. We got dressed and ready for dinner (including a VERY difficult struggle to actually get me to wear the dress that I ended up in - sorry to everyone involved), and headed down to the flowers at the resort to take pictures before our reservation. We finished pictures at the resort and our next stop was down by the ocean for more pictures on the beach. It was super super windy outside and my hair had gotten frizzy so I asked if we could go up to the room to fix our hair before dinner (this unintentionally worked out perfectly for me!!). After freshening up we headed back down to the beach to take the rest of our pictures at sunset by the water (with a few stops to make Tik Toks along the way which I later found out was to stall for time LOL). We start walking onto the beach and 2 girls linked arms with me (one took my purse and one took my phone - I didnt even notice this at the time but they are so smart and awesome for this). The entire way down the beach I was skipping and being goofy (Sully apparently was waiting over to the side for me to see him, which I did not). Eventually, the girls stopped walking to get my attention and I FINALLY looked up and saw Sully walking up the beach to me (I was later told my first 2 steps were backwards in this moment). To this day I cannot describe what I felt at that moment. As soon as I saw him I knew exactly what was happening, but was absolutely stunned at how I had no idea this was happening and EVERYONE else did. I immediately started crying and all of my friends gave me hugs, told me they loved me, and ran away to give Sully and I our moment. He took my hand and walked me down the beach to the most perfectly beautiful beach proposal set up and asked me to marry him (I think LOL - I completely blacked out and have no idea what I was doing or what he was saying at that moment, but I did say yes!!!). Sully had arranged for a photographer to capture our moments and we had a photo session on the beach following the proposal. We went back to the setup and Sully had coordinated for the resort to bring us charcuterie and wine to share and to have an intimate moment down on the beach, at sunset, alone as new fiances where we spent time together in prayer. He had a few verses of scripture picked out that he wanted to read together to highlight what we want our relationship to look like throughout the next phases of our story, and every little detail that was planned by him was beyond perfect and had so much intentionality behind it. We had dinner reservations next where we had a long debrief of how on earth what just happened had happened, and afterwards all the girls were waiting on us back at the resort with flowers, cake, and champagne, and we all celebrated with so much love and joy. I knew that I had loved Sully for years, but this moment made everything so real, and it will forever be the best day of my life, and my favorite memory ever. We now are counting down to forever, and I couldnt ask for a more perfect match for me, a more consistent person, someone who can make me laugh like he does, a man who truly puts me first in all that he does, or a greater gift and answer to all of my prayers EVER than what I have found in Sully Reames.

Kennedy's POV

Kennedy and I had many mutual friends in high school, and our sophomore year is when we started to snapchat and get to somewhat know each other. I had always thought she was very pretty, but didn’t ever make a move because I didn’t know her the greatest. The summer after our sophomore year we hung out in groups a couple of times, then had a few classes junior year. As I got to know her better in our classes, I learned how friendly, funny, and smart she was. I eventually decided (with the help of Liz Kuiper) to ask her to the homecoming dance. After almost chickening out (thanks for knocking some sense into me Liz), I went to her house with a pink poster, a Cookout cheerwine float, and my little sister Miller for support to ask her to the dance. I smoothly had to park and repark in her driveway multiple times, running over much of the Madden’s grass in the process, and accidentally loudly revving the engine of my stick shift car multiple times. When I finally asked her, she said yes and we went that Saturday. On the day of the dance, Kennedy and I spent a lot of time in the car together, where I remember there not being a second of silence. We talked, joked, and most importantly named my Ford Escape Frederick. This was our first time ever really being alone together, and it felt like we were already best friends. I’ve never been able to talk to someone so easily for so long, despite just barely knowing them. There was almost no small talk, and it felt so comfortable, easy, and fun to talk to her. We had dinner with a few friends, and at the dance I remember telling her how amazing she looked while we slow danced (she immediately went to whisper into her friend’s ear what was said after the song ended). After the dance, we went to a friend's house to watch a movie, and it took me about 5-10 minutes of back and forth in my head before I worked up the courage to put my arm around her. After the movie, I dropped her off at her house. After getting out of the car and grabbing her dress and things from the backseat, I handed them to her, then swooped in for a quick kiss while she was defenseless with full hands. I remember thinking “might as well try this” and luckily for me she kissed me back. She looked so surprised after our kiss, and when she went inside I drove home on cloud nine. A week later, we had our second date where we went to movies by ourselves, and Madworld (haunted house) with those same two friends on a double date. I have absolutely no idea what movie we watched, but I do remember that it took me about the entire opening previews to put my arm around her again. After the movie, I drove our friends and us to Madworld, and when we arrived we were met with a gigantic line to get in. We stood in line for hours, messing around, hugging, and intimidating the costumed employees (that was just me actually). Eventually, it got so late that our friends parents came and picked them up before we even got to the haunted house. We tried to stick it out, but eventually decided to leave (it was probably 1am). Despite not even getting to go to the haunted house, I had the most fun with this girl. She was so funny, easy to talk to, and there was clearly a connection between us (it was also icing on the cake that she was stunning). When we got to her house, I walked her to the garage door, where I pulled her in close and told her I didn’t really mess with the “talking stage” and wanted to “make her mine” (that’s crazy honestly how did that work, I would not recommend that pickup line to any guys reading this). She said yes and that’s how we started dating exactly 1 week after our first date at the homecoming dance. For the rest of high school, we attended more dances, along with supporting each other at sports games, and eventually graduating. I remember telling Kennedy I loved her very early in the relationship. I was dropping her off after we took care of some of her friend’s dogs, and just straight up told her I loved her. I had never felt that way about somebody, and probably said it too quickly, but I sure did feel that way. Our senior year of high school, we sat next to each other in AP Government and spent a lot of time talking and sharing my daily snack, and not much time at all paying attention. We hung out almost every day doing something after our half days of school. The summer before college we spent a lot of time together, with a final night of many tears before I left for college the next day. College is the time where I really found out that I truly wanted to be with Kennedy. Even though we were only about 40 minutes apart (she went to Clemson and I went to Anderson), it wasn’t easy to make time to see each other with our busy schedules. A lot of the time we spent together was at church on Sundays, at Kennedy’s functions that I could make it to, or after my basketball games for a little before she had to go back to Clemson. We did a very good job of keeping up with each other through text and phone calls, but it was definitely difficult at times with how busy we were. Despite that difficulty, we remained committed to each other and I definitely learned how much I loved her. It was much different not getting to see her pretty much every day like we did in high school, so I learned to value the time we did have together much more than I used to. Throughout college, the two main things I learned about Kennedy were how much she would support me, and how hard she worked. Over my four years at Anderson, she came to so many of my basketball games, and showed me how much she cared about me despite our circumstances. During her time at Clemson, she studied biomedical engineering, while also being in a sorority, having a social life, and maintaining her relationship with me. Kennedy is one of the smartest people I know, and I got to watch her breeze through high school, but college was definitely harder for her with that major and all of the other things she had going on. I got to see her work so hard to be successful, and am so proud of how diligent she is in the effort she puts forth. I can't wait to see how all that work pays off for her down the road. On November 21, 2023, I met with Kennedy’s parents at a Waffle House at about 7 am to ask them for their blessing to marry her. We went and looked at rings in November and December to get an idea for what she wanted, then I turned my location off and got to planning to figure out how to ask her to marry me. Thanks to my flexible class schedule and later in the day basketball commitments, I was able to drive to Atlanta and Columbia a couple of times with my mom and aunt to look for rings. I bought the ring on March 13, 2024, in the midst of planning how I was going to ask her. Kennedy obviously knew that the proposal was coming sometime soon, but my biggest desire for the whole thing was to find a way to surprise her. My mom came up with the amazing idea to surprise her in Naples, FL while she was on spring break with her friends. After months of secretive planning meetings, texts, and phone calls with family and friends, it was finally time to do it. On Saturday March 16th, I rode down with two friends to Jacksonville, Florida because we had tickets for The Players Championship (PGA golf tournament) that Sunday. My mom was also in Jacksonville for one of my little sister’s volleyball tournaments, so after the tournament on Sunday, my friends drove home while I got in the car with my mom to drive 5.5 hours to Naples. After a very rough, sleepy drive we made it to Naples at about 3 am. We woke up the next morning to go buy roses, along with some other proposal necessities from Costco. We got to the resort that the girls were staying at around 5 and started putting the plan into motion. All of the girls that were on the trip were in on the plan, but my main contact was Halli, who I was nonstop texting to make sure we avoided them. Their plan was to take some pictures on the beach, then go up to a different part of the resort for pictures, then come back down to the beach at sunset for more pictures. When they went to the other part of the resort, my mom and I booked it through the hotel and out to the beach to set up the proposal. I’d like to say I helped with this, but truthfully mom took over to make it look as good as it did. We had just finished setting everything up when Halli texted me that they were coming to the beach, so the photographer and I hid on beach chairs while they approached. Kennedy was completely clueless about the entire thing, and the biggest reason I know that is because her nails weren’t done for this trip, even though I had about 5 of her friends try to get her to go get them done before they left. Another big reason I know she didn’t know is because I popped up to surprise her from a distance, and all her friends saw me for about 10-20 seconds before she did. When she finally saw me, her first two steps were backwards because of how surprised she was. All her friends took off running back to the resort, and I grabbed her hand and walked her over to the proposal my mom and I had set up. She had the sweetest look of disbelief on her face the entire time, and we both can’t really recall what was said in that moment, as we both “blacked out”. I got on one knee and asked her to marry me, and she leaned down and hugged me before I could even put the ring on her finger. After the initial shock was gone, we got our pictures taken on the beach, which turned out surprisingly good for how windy it was. We then sat on the beach as the sun went down and shared a very intimate 20 minutes alone for the first time as fiancé’s reading scripture and praying about our future. After that we went to a nice dinner, which Kennedy claims is “the most I’ve ever talked” as I debriefed her about everything that had happened the last few months. We sat there for around 2 hours as we talked about everything, then went and celebrated a mini engagement party with her friends and my mom. My mom and I said goodbye at around 11:30, and drove 3 hours to Clearwater, FL to stay at my cousin’s condo. I flew out of Clearwater at 8 the next morning, exhausted and engaged. When she got back home from her trip, I picked her up at the Atlanta airport and we got to ride home together and talk even more, then we celebrated with our friends and family at an engagement party later in the week. Asking Kennedy to marry me is the greatest surprise I have ever and probably will ever pull off. And I’m so glad that I got to orchestrate (with lots of help) a moment like that for someone who means so much to me and is so deserving. I feel so blessed to get to marry Kennedy Madden. She exceeds every expectation I could ever have for a lifelong partner. It brings me so much peace to know that I’m marrying a women who won’t ever waver and will always stick by my side no matter the circumstance or situation. She is elegant and beautiful, while also being goofy and athletic. She matches (and even exceeds sometimes) the weirdness that I bring to the table, but also has the most unique heart of gold that shows endless amounts of care and love. Kennedy is a gift, an answered prayer, and my constant reminder of how graciously the Father has treated me.&nbsp;
