It all started in 2011, when I moved on campus at the University of Houston and met my RA across the hall Alex. Our first time meeting didn't go quite so well as he was upset about laundry that had been left in the communal washing machines and thought that I had something to do with it (I didn't). We had a class the following semester together, physics. He was the guy that always showed up late, slept through class and only wanted to talk to me after test days which was when my mood wasn't exactly the best. It wasn't until I started working as an RA that we really got to know each other.
In 2013 it was decided that since we were such great friends and couldn't stay away from each other that we should try the whole dating thing, and the rest is history! The past 10 years have been spent growing and learning together, graduating college, starting our careers and traveling almost every chance we get. The best moment came when Alex got down on one knee in Italy and asked the question I was more than ready to answer!
The year was 2012, when Kennedy first caught my eye from across the auditorium classroom of the Science and Research Building. That semester we had both signed up for the Friday 8 am Physics 1 lecture. And yes, I may have fallen asleep a couple of times…. but in my defense not only did I get an A in the class but I would challenge anyone to stay awake during an 8 am Physics Lecture the morning after participating in the SigEp weekly tradition of TNDC (Thursday Night Drinking Club). After many unsuccessful attempts to try to talk to Kennedy on the bus ride back to our dorm I figured it wasn’t meant to be. Kennedy later ended up becoming an RA like me at UH where I discovered that it wasn’t that she didn’t like me, she just hated physics test (who would have known).
We became friends and over time we decided to take our relationship to the next level, when I referred to her as my girlfriend during a trip we took to the river one summer. During our relationship we have learned a lot about each other as we overcame many life hurdles as a team along with our dog son Derby, always supporting each other every step of the way. Not only did I know I had found my best friend, I had found someone that I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Marrying Kennedy was always the plan.
