Our Story

Everyone in the world has heard of the Valentine's Day love story of a couple that meets, falls in love, and lives happily ever after like in every Hallmark movie ever made. Well, our story is also&nbsp;a Valentine's Day story. We met on February 14th, 2020, there was an annual carnival that was held at a local church in our area that everyone we knew was going to. We were both newly single so our friends got the smart idea that they should introduce us as we had similar interests. I played baseball my whole life and Kenzie had played softball her entire life we immediately had something to discuss. We ended up hitting things off and we hung out the entire night. Luckily for me, the carnival was in town for the whole weekend so that meant I had an easy excuse for a second date and another chance to see her again. We ended up hanging out at the carnival again the next night and had planned to do the same for the following night where we ended up going to the beach and just talked the night away. It was easy to see that both of us were hooked and neither one of us wanted to leave. About a month later I grounded up the courage to ask her to be my girlfriend. I made it official on March 26th as I felt it was the right time to make my move. About 6 months after I asked her out I had a hard decision to make as it was time for me to head off to college up in North Carolina while she had to stay home and finish out her last year of high school. She did online school so it allowed for her to visit about every month so it was never too long I didn't see her. We made it through the first year and she graduated from high school. I ended up transferring colleges to another one in North Carolina and amazingly enough Kenzie also had interest in this school as well so we ended up going to the same college. She was on the softball team and I was on the baseball team so it looked like a perfect match. We got a taste of living together partially as we spent the night at each other's apartments. That year was nice as we both got to live our college lives, go to school, and play sports all while being together almost every day. After this year, things got a lot harder as I ended up transferring again to another school for baseball but this time in Iowa. I was also not ready for the long distance because we realized&nbsp;that with both of us being in athletics that have very similar scheduling, it left no time for either of us to see each other in person. This was the hardest part of our relationship as we were so far apart from one another and it would be months in between visits. Even though it was tough, it showed me that even with me being that far away I did not want to be with anyone else. I started coming up with a plan around November after getting the chance to visit her in North Carolina. I began to contact and let my close ones know my intentions and started constructing a foolproof plan of surprising her with a proposal. The planning process took a long time as I wanted to make sure that everything was perfect and that I had everyone's blessing and permission. After I secretly secured both her mother's and her father's blessings, I had the final steps that needed to be taken to do the proposal. For the proposal, I planned a dinner that was disguised as a birthday for my father so that she would not suspect anything. Kenzie's dream proposal was for it to happen on the beach at sunset with her loved ones and friends to be there. We got there early for dinner and decided to take pictures out on the beach as we were all dressed up in nicer clothes. When she had her back turned getting ready for a picture, I pulled out the ring in a small box got down on one knee, and popped the question. She immediately started to tear up and before I could even finish she had said yes. After she hugged me and I put the ring on her finger I told her she had another surprise and told her to turn around. Standing behind her were our friends who were a couple and were both our best man and maid of honor. We all took pictures and then went into the restaurant and had dinner. It truly was an amazing night and I am really happy how everything turned out. Here we are now planning our dream wedding and finalizing all of the necessities for the big day. We are both so excited for this next chapter in our story and can't wait to share this experience with our family, friends, and loved ones.
