A Journey from Friendship to Forever

Our love story began long before we realized it!In September 2001, at St. Rose’s High School in Georgetown, Guyana, a young boy from the rural county of Essequibo, who moved to the capital city to start his high school journey, met a city girl who had spent her entire life in Georgetown. His name is Keron George, and her name is Kersee Welch. This is our story!They were both just teenagers then, deeply engrossed in their studies and sports. Kersee, with her remarkable athletic abilities and passion for cricket, stood out. Like many boys his age, Keron was shy but found joy in cricket. For him, there was an early spark of interest in this bright, active, and beautiful girl. But for Kersee, it wasn’t until the latter years of high school that she began to notice Keron as more than just a classmate. She saw a kind, gentle, respectful, and shy young man who might offer more than just a smile. Despite this budding awareness, their feelings remained unspoken, wrapped in the innocence of youth.After graduation in 2006, life took them on different paths. Kersee pursued medicine in Cuba, excelling and eventually graduating as a medical doctor in 2015. Keron pursued his dream, studied aircraft engineering at Ogle, and then embarked on a journey across the region and beyond, with Grenada becoming his home base. Interestingly, Keron had initially tried to follow Kersee to Cuba by applying for medical school there, but fate had other plans.Throughout their university years, they maintained intermittent contact, mostly through emails and text messages, often facilitated by their mutual friend and Maid of Honour, Afifah. Despite the challenges, they always tried to catch up whenever Keron returned to Guyana. Those brief reunions were always shared with friends, never allowing the chance to explore what more their friendship could be or truly meant.In 2017, it seemed like their story might end when Kersee committed to someone else. Years passed, and the significance of their relationship faded. But then, the pandemic of 2020 changed everything. With more time to reflect, Keron decided to reconnect with Kersee. He sent her a heartfelt message on WhatsApp, expressing his appreciation for their long-standing friendship. Kersee was initially surprised and curious, even wondering if Keron was reaching out because of some dire circumstance. Yet, amid her own difficult situation, his messages became a source of comfort and distraction.As they rekindled their friendship, they began talking every day. It soon became clear that their feelings had deepened, but they were still afraid to express them openly.&nbsp;After some exciting career news, they decided to celebrate—marking what would become their first date. They were both anxious, knowing this was the moment they would finally verbalize their feelings. That first date blossomed into a month of prayer and fasting, leading them to make their relationship official on July 3, 2021. They celebrated with a candlelight dinner at the Playland Restaurant and Bar. The ambience was perfect; there were flowers and presents, and they made written promises to each other, sealed with their thumbprints.In October 2021, the universe seemed to conspire in their favour again when Kersee received a remarkable job opportunity in Grenada. It was a moment of serendipity, a chance for their paths to merge once more. With unwavering determination and a heart full of courage, Kersee boldly decided to take the leap and move to Grenada.The unique journey took on a new dimension as Kersee embarked on this new chapter of her life. With its pristine beaches and lush landscapes, Grenada became the backdrop for the next chapter of their love story. With each passing day, their bond grew stronger, fortified by the shared adventures and experiences in this tropical paradise.Together, they embraced Grenada's beauty—its people's warmth, the rhythm of its culture, and the tranquillity of its surroundings. It was here that their love blossomed even further.In Grenada, they found a new home and a sanctuary for their hearts to flourish. As they navigated the twists and turns of life together, they realized that their love was not just a fleeting moment but a timeless journey filled with boundless possibilities.Three years later, they find themselves celebrating a life filled with love, blessed with two beautiful children, a loving home, and the unwavering support of family. Their journey from that first meeting in a high school classroom to building a life together has been filled with numerous blessings.This is our love story—one that was destined from the start and one that we cherish every day.
