Alex and Kersten grew up in neighboring towns. Kersten went to high school in Scribner and Alex went to high school at Logan View. While the two of them lived within miles of each other, Alex never knew Kersten was even part of the Peters family. Alex knew Kersten’s siblings, but that was it. Speeding up to June 2021, Alex and Kersten both leaned on an online dating app, Bumble, to bring them someone to meet. And so, they both swiped right on each other! With the match notification, Kersten had just 24 hours to respond to the match before it would be deleted forever. One summer day in June, Kersten met Alex at his grandparent’s, Dale and Mitzi, house. They were away on vacation and Alex covered the RING camera with electrical tape so they wouldnt see when Kersten arrived. It was from that day, that Alex and Kersten would become inseparable. At the end of the 2021-2022 school year, Kersten was able to land a teaching job in Blair, Ne and in April of 2022, Kersten moved in with Alex. Kersten took over the cleaning and decorating of the house and Alex got used to having a permanent roommate. The two learned how to live with one another and eventually went ring shopping in January of 2023. Kersten found her dream ring and Alex made the purchase shortly after ring shopping. Alex had plans of proposing to Kersten but didn’t know where the right spot would be. However, before Alex could find a place, Kersten would find out Alex had the ring. This made things difficult for Alex as he had many ideas of the proposal spot. Time went by and Alex went behind Kersten’s back and set up the proposal with a friend of Kersten. The friend would then purchase a sign with the day Kersten said YES! This sign was then wrapped and placed on a table outside of Dale and Mitzi’s house. Alex thought of an excuse to get Kersten to the house and unwrap the present. As Kersten read the sign, Alex got down on one knee and said, “It all started with a piece of electrical tape on a ring, will you marry me?!” Kersten said “YES!” and was surprised to see her friend was part of it and even had a photographer to snap pictures of the proposal. Alex continued the surprise by taking her to Hooper to eat at the Office Bar and Grill and have her walk in to see family to celebrate the engagement between the two!
