Dear Diary,
It was my second semester of freshman year at NJIT; I walked into physics lab late because I went to the wrong classroom... And so of course I got put into some random group of five guys. And if you guessed it, one of them was Kevin. He was very quiet (which if you know him is NOT the case), shy, and just sat there doodling in his book all the time. One day I saw him walk to lab with a mutual friend and couldn't believe they knew each other! From then on we would always hangout with our friend group and started studying/talking more.
A few months later Kevin asked me to see a Star Wars movie (which i hated) and we went out to a diner afterwards. According to Kevin this was our "first date". Maybe to him, because i didn't even know we were on a date that night. I thought we were just two friends going to see a movie together. LOL. Anyways a few weeks later he asked me out and I never thought it would become the relationship that it is. Kevin is my bestest friend. We enjoy traveling together, cooking, playing video games, hiking, being goofy and especially lazy (we're good at that).
On our first major travel in 2022 we went to Oahu, Hawaii! So beautiful! One of the days we drove to Lanikai Beach, which was this amazing quiet beach in a more residential area. Kevin didn't want to go swimming with me, which I thought was weird, but whatever. I came out from the water and he asked if I wanted to build a sand castle. Heck yeah I wanted to build one! He kept telling me to go get things like sticks and water, and in my mind I'm like, "ugh, why is he making me get these things! He should do it, not me." I said "ehh" and just did them anyway. Little did I know he was doing sneaky things when I was away. I come back from getting some shells and he tells me to flip the bucket for our castle. When I flip it, some Ziplock bag falls out. In my head I'm like "EW he just scooped up someone's garbage into our bucket?!" There's this red object inside and it looks like maybe an apple in the bag? He tells me to open the bag (I'm so confused at this point, but ok) and it's a ring box! I open it and there's my engagement ring!!! I'm so happy and start crying! I can't believe he actually surprised me. Who would've thought Kevin wouldn't have been a nervous wreck the day of our proposal and totally give it away. Props to you my love. Now, two years later, we are planning our wedding with all our favorite people and are looking forward to our honeymoon in Japan! How cool!
I'm so grateful that even though NJIT brought me some major stress through that engineering curriculum (if you know you know), it also brought me the funniest, adorable, most caring guy I know. Cant wait for October 12th!
