Carlie and Kevin first met senior year of high school at a retreat in Erie, PA called To Encounter Christ (TEC). Carlie had made the decision to attend TEC with some persuasion from Fr Stephen Schreiber in order to grow her faith. She attended the first session that she could in June 2008. While at Kennedy, Carlie was always taught to pray for your future spouse and to pray that God would make you ready to meet your future spouse. Carlie attended the retreat and did just that. Kevin made the decision to attend the retreat a few months later with some persuasion from Fr Mike Demartinis. Both went on to work the retreat several times which is where they encountered each other. Carlie definitely had a crush on Kevin but he wouldn't give her the time of day back then.
Both went their separate ways in college while periodically commenting on each other's posts on Facebook. Fast forward to May 2019 when Kevin was laying awake at 3:30am one night and decided to look at his Facebook memories. It just so happened there was one Carlie had posted inviting him to her graduation party 10 years ago. Kevin decided to message Carlie simply to say hi and that he couldn't believe we had been out of high school for ten years. That simple message led to more conversations over the next few months until Kevin was finally back in town for a wedding in August. The two got together in Grove City, PA. Kevin came bearing a bouquet of yellow roses which mean "friendship" so he immediately friend-zoned her on the first date! They've shared many laughs over Kevin's lack of knowledge on rose colors and the rest is history! Kevin asked Carlie to be his girlfriend two weeks later.
The two managed to make long distance work for a little over a year and COVID actually ended up being a blessing to them because Kevin was able to come up North and stay for a little over a month. Carlie finally made the move to Florida at the end of October 2020. On December 12, 2020, Carlie and Kevin wanted to take Carlie's sister Katie and her boyfriend Dominick to St. Augustine to see the historic Christmas lights. The city is one of Carlie's absolute favorite places. However, plans were held up as they waited in traffic for over an hour a half a mile from the exit due to a car accident. Once they finally got into the city, the traffic was horrible and they spent forever trying to find parking. At this point, Kevin was extremely irritated so the four just decided to walk to the city's center and take some pictures. Needless to say, Carlie was extremely surprised that during the pictures Kevin pulled out a ring and asked her to spend forever with him. She, of course, said yes and the couple cannot wait until October 9, 2021!
Kevin and Carlie's relationship is proof that God works in mysterious ways and who would've guessed the person Carlie was praying for all those years was praying right next to her in high school!
