Our story began long before we ever spoke a word to each other. Our families had known one another for years, but somehow, through all the gatherings, celebrations, and crossed paths, the two of us never actually met. Life had a way of keeping our timelines separate—between Sonny’s Army career and Khanh’s journey toward becoming an nurse practitioner (NP), we were always just a little out of sync.

That changed after a hurricane swept through the city. While helping her family recover, Sonny was asked a simple question by Khanh’s sister: “My sister Khanh is single, would you want to get to know Khanh?” He said yes without hesitation.

But even then, timing had its own plans. Khanh flew to California for a travel nurse assignment, and Sonny prepared for another deployment. We returned home only months apart, finally back in Tampa and St. Petersburg at the same time.

As Sonny started visiting the family more often, tagging along on trips and get-togethers, he developed an instant crush the moment he finally met Khanh face-to-face. The only problem? She didn’t catch any of his hints. We exchanged socials and chatted when we could, but our schedules kept pulling us in different directions.

After a stretch of radio silence (yes, she ghosted him a little), fate nudged us back into each other’s lives—this time with more intention, more clarity, and much better timing.
