Khera and I met when we attended school together at Southern Seminary pursuing our master’s degrees. We met through some mutual friends of ours and began to hang out regularly on campus at lunch with our dear friend, Annie Ruth.

After many months of being friends I (Trent) realized that I liked Khera as more than a friend. I knew that I needed to ask her out but was scared to ruin our friendship. I prayed and told my friend, Tyrei, that I was going to do it and that he must hold me to it.

One faithful Reformation Day (also known as Halloween for you normies), Khera and I were watching a movie with our friends Hannah and (hot) Robbie. I knew that would be the day I asked her out. I had planned to ask her right after the movie outside the house we were at but Khera parked close to our friend Mary who was there as well. I missed my opportunity but, by that point, I had to make it happen that day. I was too jacked up on Mountain Dew to wait any longer. I did what any sane, rational individual would do: I got our friend Hannah to track her location and went to Khera’s house.

Khera was caught off guard (crazy I know) and without skipping a beat I went straight to the matter at hand and asked her on a date. She screamed “WHAT!?” several times from shock. She asked if she could have a minute to think about it and, later that night, texted me to say that what I did was “insane and bold” and that she would go on the date.

From there on, our friendship grew as well as our affection for one another. We knew early on that we wanted to get married. This past Fall, I finally surprised her again and got on one knee to ask her to marry me.

Neither of us are perfect but Khera and I both know the Lord has prepared us perfectly for each other. We cannot wait to covenant with one another in February and celebrate with y’all
