Things to Do 🎣

Itasca State Park

Ever wanted to see where the Mississippi River starts? Well look no further! Head north on highway 71 for about 20ish miles and it will be on your left!

Fishing/Boating/Water Activities

Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes! And they are ever bountiful in the Park Rapids area!

Restaurant Capital of the World!

Check out Dorset, MN and all of their restaurants and see the restaurant capital of the world!

Gambling

Head to Walker, MN about 45 minutes east on Highway 34 and go to the Northern Lights Casino!

Nature Exploration

If you’re a nature person like me I love going to the Paul Bunyan State Forest and going for drives or hikes! It’s easy to get lost in there but as long as you keep following roads you will eventually find your way out! It is a beautiful spot during the change of the leaves! Head North of Nevis and you will go smack dab into the forest!

World’s Largest Musky! I think!

Head to Nevis, east on 34 and drive into town and see a large Musky statue!

Take a Pic with Paul Bunyan!

Head east on highway 34 to Akeley and on the left there is a giant Paul and you can stand on his hand for a fun photo!

Float a river or 2!

You can either float the river outside of DL at Charley’s I think it’s called, they have pink busses and are really hard to miss! Or you can head to Huntersville and catch a ride on their busses and float! Both places will rent out tubes!

Bring the kids to Evergreen Park AKA World of Christmas

Whatever you want to call the place, if you have kids this is a fun place to check out! They have go karts, games, and other fun family things!

Go See A Movie

Park Rapids has a really cool theater located downtown! I believe it’s from the 50’s? And the bathrooms are pretty neat, never been in the guys but the ladies you walk up stairs and sit on a thrown!

Check out Downtown PR!

There are lots of fun restaurants and places to go! They also have parking in the middle which is a cool thing to see!

Golfing

Not a golfer myself but I think the courses around the area are pretty fun!

Run into Josh Duhamel, maybe!

Josh frequents the area of PR and maybe just maybe he will be in town this weekend!

Look for Bigfoot!

If you’re a fellow Bigfooter like this girl there is plenty of wilderness in the area where he could be! Check out the BFRO’s website (shoutout) and see if he has been spotted in the area recently and check it on out!! Or you could head to Remer and they have a bunch of Bigfoot themed places and gift shops, but not as cool as looking for him in my opinion!

Rent a bike or walk the Heartland Trail

It starts in the middle of Park Rapids at Heartland Park and stops in Walker! You can take pit stops along the way in Dorset, Nevis, and Akeley. Lots of beautiful things to look at as you go!

Eat breakfast at the Logging Camp

Located on Highway? County Road? Something 18 just north of Park Rapids is the Logging Camp, you can learn about the history of logging in the area and eat a family style breakfast! Fun fact my great grandpa owned a logging mill so logging has always been a part of my mom’s side of the family!

Character Challenge Course

If you’re looking for a fun thing to do with the kids or want some team building with your family, check out the course! If you head north on highway 71 and take a right onto County Road 40 you go up about a mile or so and it will be on your left.

Mini Golf

More of my cup of tea! PR just got a new mini golf course and it’s western themed! If you head east on 71, right out of town it will be on your left side!

Rent some side by sides or ATV’s

The area has tons of trails to check out and go explore! If you’re not into hiking, or biking, driving seems to be the answer for you! Don’t want to mess up your car off roading? Been there, sorry mom! Take something fun!
