Our Wedding

After 3 months of chatting, Roshan chose a rainy Friday to ask Khushali to meet up for the first time. It was a brief conversation, Khushali talked about the family vacation she just came back from in the Bahamas and the upcoming board exams, Roshan about ... work (what's new). On the way out, he asked Khushali which way 6th ave was... she pointed him in the wrong direction (he did not hold that against her). The following week, their journey became a little more complicated, with the pandemic lockdown going into effect. Khushali and Roshan found ways to keep the magic going. A FaceTime here, a walk in the park there. The pandemic forced them to find creative ways to help their relationship stay strong. It wasn't long before nightly FaceTimes were the norm. In July 2022, Roshan took Khushali to her favorite Thai restaurant (UpThai...Highly recommended). He took the longest walk of his life (10 blocks) nearly passing out on the way back from nerves. In her studio apartment, Roshan got down on one knee and asked Khushali to be his wife. She said YES! The rest you already know. Can't wait to see you all in April

We recommend flying into this airport if you are planning to stay at the hotel. (~50 mins by car) Laguardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK): You can also fly into either of these airports if you wish (~1 hour by car). These are both convenient to New York City. From the airport, we recommend taking a yellow cab or Uber/Lyft to your lodgings.

The Hilton Pearl River is a small hotel and we've been able to secure as many rooms as possible but we'd still recommend booking ASAP. The hotel sells out every weekend of the year and the block will only last till March 15. Our Room rate is $185 per night and we've booked the hotel starting Friday Night (April 7) through Sunday (April 9). Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Depending on weather, the Wedding Ceremony and Baraat will be outdoors on the Hilton's lovely estate (grass). The rest of the events will be indoors

Where can I shop for Indian Clothes?

Please be aware that you are welcome to wear whatever clothing best represents your style and preferences. Western formal attire is appropriate for any of our events, if preferred. Wedding Details

(1) Baraat -- Roshan's Parade

In a festive, music-fill procession, Roshan, along with his family and friends, arrive at the venus in style and try to impress Khushali's wedding party with their dance moves

(2) Milan and Pokhwanu -- The introductions

Did Roshan's parade do the trick? If so, Roshan's Wedding party is greeted by Khushali's family and friends at the enterance of the Hilton. Roshan puts it all on the line, crushing a clay pot as a symbol of his power and strength to overcome any obstacles in marriage

(3) Swagatam  -- Roshan's Arrival

Roshan is escorted to the mandap by Khushali's parents. Before entering the mandap, a fun game is played where Khushali's family tried to steal Roshan's shoes and hold them for ransom after he takes them off. If they succeed, Roshan must offer to pay them to get his shoe's back! Watch out for espionage as both sides work hard to get/ protect the shoes

(4) Ganesh Pooja -- Opening Prayer

The wedding ceremony begins with a prayer to Lord Ganesh, whose Divine grade removes all obstacles and symbolizes peace, happiness, and friendship. Lord Ganesh is asked to bless Khushali and Roshan's marriage with tranquility and harmony

(5) Kanya Aagaman -- Khushali's Arrival

Khushali is escorted down the aisle to the mandap by her Sanjay mama and Paresh mamas, her maternal uncles. Upon her arrival, Khushali and Roshan are separated by the Antarpat (veil of white cloth), which is lower after the Priest recites a traditional prayer, asking for God's blessings for their forthcoming marriage.

(6) Jai Mala -- Exchange of Garlands

When the veil is lowered, Roshan and Khushali adorn each other with flower garlands, symbolizing the unification of their hearts, minds, and souls

(7) Hasta Melap, Gathbandhan & Kanyadaan -- Uniting of the Bride and Groom

Khushali's parents place her right hand into Roshan's right hand, signifying her passing to a new family. The 'joining of the hands' symbolizing the groom's acceptance of the bridge as his equal partner and his responsibility to love, respect and protect her forever. The ends of the couples' scarves are tied together, with the knot symbolizing the eternal and unbreakable bond between them

(8) Havan -- Lighting the Fire

A sacred flame is lit to ask Lord Agni, The Lord of Fire, to bless the couple with purity and happiness, dispel darkness and ignorance, and lead the couple into a world of light and knowledge

(9) Mangal Fera -- Circling the Holy Fire

Roshan and Khushali will circle the fire four times, with eac round symbolizing a particular aspect of their life together: Dharma (religion and ethics), Artha (wealth and prosperity), Kama (love and family) and Moksha (spiritual strength). Before each round, Khushali's brothers (Rohal, Mehul, Arjav, Mihir, Sunny, Soham, Sahil) will each be invited to fill her palms with rice to offer into the fire. Legend says that whoever sits down first, following the fourth round, will rule the household.... Good luck Roshan

(10) Sapta Padi -- Seven Steps

In the most important ritual of the weddign ceremony, Roshan and Khushali will take their seven steps together to represent the beginning of their journey through life. Each step signifies a vow they promise to uphold together. Upon completing these steps, Roshan and Khushali and officially married!!!With the first step, ley us vow to share out food togetherWith our second step, let us vow to grow together in strength With the third step, let us vow to preserve our wealthWith our fourth step, let us vow to share our joys and sorrows With the fifth step, let us vow to care for our children and parentsWith our sixth step, let us vow to be together foreverWith the seventh step, let us vow to be true companions and everlasting friends

(11) Mangalsutra, Sindoor & Ring Exchange  -- Symbols of Marriage

Roshan applies red powder in the parting of Khushali's hair adn ties a Mangalsutra (auspicious necklace) around Khushali's neck as a symble of his love, commitment and respect. Roshan and Khushali will then exchange wedding bands

(12) Kansar - Feeding of Sweets

Roshan and Khushali feed each other sweets to represent their first meal as a married couple and to wish each other a sweet life together

(13) Akhand Saubhagyavati -- Blessings from Married Women

Khushali's Mom and Roshan's Mom will whisper blessings and secrets for a long and prosperous marriage into Khushali's right ear
