Willow Beach is located on the Arizona side of the Colorado River between Lake Mead and Lake Mohave. Both lakes are part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area administered by the U.S. National Park Service. Willow Beach was a major trade center for Mojave and Virgin Ancestral Pueblo people along the routes between Coastal California and the American Southwest between 500 and 1200 CE. For Z and I, this place holds the memory of watching our baby girl take her first leap into the unknown. In a world that has grown more fearful with each passing year, the instinct to shield our children runs deep. Yet, in that moment, watching her brave the cliffs with such courage, our hearts swelled with pride. It was as though we saw in her the fearless child we once were, daring and alive with the promise of adventure

Willow Beach

Oatman is a census-designated place in the Black Mountains of Mohave County, Arizona, United States, at an elevation of 2,710 feet. In 1915, it began as a small mining camp when two prospectors struck US$10 million in gold, though the vicinity had already been settled for several years. Oatmans population grew to more than 3,500 in one year. As of the 2020 United States census, its population was 102 We set off on a leisurely family road trip along the iconic Route 66, a stretch of highway known for its winding, hairpin turns. Nicknamed The Sidewinder, the road curves and twists, but with a speed limit of just 25 mph, we had plenty of time to soak in the stunning scenery. For us, the journey is just as important as the destination, and this drive was the perfect reminder to slow down and enjoy the ride. As we meandered along, Don’t forget to keep eye out for the secret fish well. A small pool has been carved into the side of a cliff wall. Being fed water from a mysterious source and home to tiny gold fish. It is very bewildering to say the least. Eventually, we reached the end of the road and arrived in Oatman, a small town brimming with history and old-west charm. There are a few spots we always make sure to visit. We love stopping by the old jail to see the desert tortoise, then grabbing a refreshing hand-pressed lemonade and indulging in sweet treats at the ice cream parlor inside the Oatman Hotel. It’s the perfect way to cap off a memorable adventure through this unique slice of America.

We spent the day wandering, learning, and marveling at the immense beauty and scale of the Grand Canyon. The vastness of it all made us feel small, yet connected to something far greater. With its towering cliffs and endless horizons, we were humbled by the sheer grandeur of nature. Nona found joy in watching wild horses grazing on the canyon’s edge, and she delighted in spotting countless birds soaring below, their wings dancing in the canyon breeze. It was a trip that not only immersed us in history and nature but also deepened our appreciation for culture and the world around us. These are the kinds of journeys that truly capture our adventurous spirit, filling our hearts with awe and wonder.

Grand Canyon National Park - South Rim

Red Rock Canyon, located just west of Las Vegas in Clark County, Nevada, is a geological and historical treasure. Its striking red sandstone formations were formed over millions of years through the processes of erosion, sedimentation, and tectonic activity. The area was originally shaped by ancient seas, then uplifted by faulting, and is now part of the larger Mojave Desert ecosystem. For us, Red Rock Canyon became our backyard when we lived in Las Vegas. early mornings, late evenings and everything in between best believe you could find us at RRC. We would venture out to explore new trails or revisit some of our favorites, savoring the majestic views or hiding among the trees, dipping our toes into the cool creek. It was our little oasis. Many memories were made here—memories of showing family and friends the beauty of Red Rock, and of Nona and Grampy getting lost and having to scale rock walls to find their way to safety. It was always an adventure, and it was always a good time. The canyon, with its timeless landscape and peaceful retreats, became a special place where laughter and love intertwined with the land, making every visit unforgettable.

World-renowned for its 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone, Valley of Fire State Park contains ancient, petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years. A Visitor Center provides exhibits on the geology, ecology, prehistory and history of the park and nearby region.

In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Yet, each extreme has a striking contrast. Towering peaks are frosted with winter snow.
