Our Story

The Story of Us 👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏻‍♂️

The Very Beginning 🎬

Nikki fondly remembers the introduction email she received when Kieran joined PwC in 2016. Kieran’s boss at the time wrote that “we always say that you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to work at PwC, but in this case, Kieran actually is!!”. They didn’t get to know each other until much later, but it’s hard to forget having a rocket scientist coworker in your midst 🚀

Over the following two years, Kieran and Nikki worked together indirectly - often involved in the same projects but not really working together. It wasn’t until busy season in 2018 that they started to get to know each other.

Better Best Friends 💃🏻🕺🏻

In early 2018, as fate would have it, Nikki got assigned to a year-end audit that Kieran was heavily involved in. Her task? Implement Revenue CAATs (our auditor friends out there know what we’re talking about - these aren’t the meowing-type cats 😺). Was it possible without Kieran’s rocket scientist brain? No.

On January 24, 2018, Nikki sent Kieran the email in the screenshot below, finding herself at her wits end attempting to get the CAAT to reconcile to their client’s financial information. Little did they know at the time that this email would set the stage for many more auditing jokes and a lifetime together 👩🏻‍❤️‍👨🏻

Over the next number of months, Kieran and Nikki grew to be “even better best friends”, learning that they had similar taste in music, the same love for dorky video games, a like-minded sense of humour and a true adoration for all things nachos and beer gardens 🍻. On a summer day in the PwC bullpen, Bridesmaid Ashton overheard Nikki and Kieran talking (aka bantering) over a work-related issue in the cubicle behind her - after Kieran left the room, Ashton turned to Nikki and said “so, when are you two going to get married?” 🙈

Even though it was pretty obvious to everyone around them (no one told them that until much later 🙄) by mid-2018, Nikki and Kieran still weren’t totally ready to admit that they were a love-match and therefore appointed Jared (pictured below) as their official third wheel 👨‍👩‍👦. Jared patiently went on fifty first dates with Kieran & Nikki over that summer and had a front row seat to them falling in love (and refusing to admit it) ♥️

Finally, They Admit They’re Dating 🥰

After months of dating and telling people they were “just friends”, in 2019 Kieran and Nikki finally admitted to everyone (and themselves) that they were an item 💌 - in fact, Groomsman Jarrett still laughs about the house party they held at their upscale luxury apartment when Groomsman Justin was visiting and Kieran introduced Nikki as his “girlfriend”. The only person more surprised (and excited) by this introduction than Jarrett was Nikki herself 🥳.

During that year, Kieran brought Nikki into the world of CrossFit 🏋️‍♀️, Nikki nursed Kieran back to health after the infamous fall Whiskey Fest 🥃, Nikki met Kieran’s parents moving him into the aforementioned upscale luxury apartment 🏙 and Kieran made an unforgettable first impression on Nikki’s father when he hit his head off the expertly placed candle in her parent’s front entry-way 🕯 (and was immediately welcomed into the family by George with open arms). That year was a year of last first times - little did they know what 2020 and 2021 would bring! ⏳

Those Three Little Words ♥️

In early 2020, Kieran got the opportunity to travel abroad for work - all the way to Kolkata, India for five weeks! On Kieran’s last night in Halifax before he left, he (finally) worked up the nerve to say those three little words to Nikki 🎇 Looking back, they’d both say now that they loved each other for a long time before they said it, but the moment was perfect ♥️

When Kieran came home, the world changed forever and COVID-19 struck. Most folks dreaded social isolation and being cooped up for months, but not Kieran and Nikki. They look back on that summer with the most positive memories of spending time together barbecue-ing 🥩, going for walks 🌳 (in our own community of course!) and playing (and beating) countless video games 👾. They even managed to work in a classic COVID haircut with Nikki spending two hours cutting Kieran’s hair with nail scissors while he played old school video games 💇🏻

Moving In 🚚

In late 2020, after spending the first waves of COVID-19 together, Nikki and Kieran decided to take the plunge and “test out” moving in together 🪴. The “move-in” in December was a test run to see if they could stand living with each other enough to make a go of it, and they weren’t able to stay apart after that ♥️. Little did Nikki know that during that trial run, Kieran and his Best Man (and brother) Morris had a heart to heart about locking Nikki down for good - during that Christmas, the plan was hatched to secure the ring 💍.

Nikki moved into Kieran’s bachelor pad in early 2021 (complete with a bow and arrow hanging on the living room wall 🏹), brought loads of clutter over with her and took over all decor-related decisions 💐🛋. While Nikki was worrying about decor and finding the perfect dining room table (but not measuring to make sure it’d fit in either the car or the apartment), Kieran was working with his Mom (Debbie) and his Aunt Merle to get his grandmother’s engagement ring so he could propose 🥰

He Popped the Question! 💍

On a sunny Friday in August 2021, while Nikki was sleeping off a Thursday night party, Kieran made the trip to Indian Harbour Lake to meet with Nikki’s parents, George and Betty 🚙💨 - he told Nikki he was headed to Chester for the day to hang out with Morris and Erin, and she was none the wiser 🤷🏻‍♀️. When Kieran re-tells the story, he says that when he arrived at 11AM, George cracked him a beer without him even having to ask 🍻. He knew they knew what he wanted to ask, but that didn’t help his nerves in any capacity (the beer did though!) - after he worked up the courage to ask, his happiest memory of the moment was George saying “Welcome to the family” 🤝.

On Saturday, August 28, 2021, Nikki was spending the sunny day working at the office while Kieran was spending the day at home planning what would become one of the happiest moments of their lives ☀️. When Nikki arrived home from work, Kieran met her at the main door to the apartment downstairs - Kieran had a new (and unexpected haircut) and was clean shaven 🧔🏻‍♂️. Nikki would say she remembers thinking this was odd, but shrugged it off and made her way upstairs to their apartment.

Once they got upstairs to their apartment, the first thing Nikki noticed that it was immaculately clean 🧼. Once again, Nikki thought this was odd but not completely unusual as Kieran is a pretty fantastic housekeeper - the second in a series of things she should have noticed were leading up to a proposal that she somehow did not at all notice 🤗.

After a long day of work, Nikki was ready to have fun and Kieran suggested playing Sequence, a board game they recently picked up on the recommendation of Bridesmaid Ashton that was conveniently sitting out on the dining room table ready to be played 🎲. Nikki had not yet noticed at this point that there were fresh flowers on the table 🌸 or that their song was playing on the TV 🎶 or even that Kieran was refusing to sit down across from her at the table and was hovering behind her shoulder 🤔.

It was as Nikki was opening the Sequence box that she noticed that the game was not put away the way she had put it away the night before and that there was a black ring box sitting in the middle of the box 💍. She turned around and saw Kieran on one knee beside her and, in disbelief, said “NO!” 😂. Kieran, at this point, was terrified but popped the question nonetheless (very brave guy 😉) and Nikki, between hysterical bouts of laughter, said YES ♥️.

Happy Ever After 🥳

Kieran and Nikki spent the evening of their engagement drinking champagne 🍾, dancing in the kitchen 💃🕺 and phoning their family and friends sharing the good news (however this was delayed by a couple hours until George returned home from the golf course ⛳️). The next day was spent with Morris and Erin, celebrating their engagement at the Royal Nova Scotian Yacht Squadron and the following weeks were spent enjoying their newly engaged bliss and planning the very wedding that’s happening October 15, 2022 💒.
