What kind of wedding is this? What accomodations will be provided?

Prepare for an off-grid, DIY, freaky forest wedding which is guaranteed to be a party! We plan to party all weekend long, but the wedding ceremony will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, October 12. The wedding and reception will be at the same location, which is in a beautiful stand of aspen trees in the middle of the Coconino National Forest. We will rent a heated event tent with tables and chairs for the reception/meal, but otherwise we will be outside the entire time. We will also rent port-a-potties and hand wash stations. Cell phone reception is spotty to non-existent at the site.

Where is the wedding site?

The wedding ceremony and reception will take place north of Flagstaff in the Coconino National Forest at the following coordinates: 35.337456, -111.758471. DO NOT follow Google Maps directions unless you want to go on a bumpy adventure with a high clearance vehicle! We will put up signs but basic directions as follows: from Flagstaff drive north on route 180, turn right on to FS 794, drive about 2 miles, our signs will show you where to park if you have a low clearance vehicle. If you have high clearance then at this point turn right on to FS 9001L, drive for less than a mile, you should see our parking area on the right, and the wedding/reception site further on. We will run a shuttle between the wedding location and the low clearance parking location. Phone service is spotty way out there so downloading maps is a good idea.

What airport should I use?

Flagstaff Pulliam Airport is much closer (40 minutes from the wedding site) but can be quite expensive and will involve more layovers. I have not identified any rhyme or reason in finding the best price for this airport - we've seen it as low as $300, as high as $1200. *NOTE: The Flagstaff airport is sometimes called Grand Canyon Village (FLG). This is the same as Flagstaff Pulliam Airport! Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) is much cheaper, but it's approximately 3 hours away from the wedding site. You can get a shuttle from the airport to Flagstaff for $60. The wedding location itself will require a drive about 30 minutes outside of town, so you will probably want to rent a car in either case.

Where can I stay?

We would love if you would camp with us at the wedding site, but we understand that camping is not for everybody and traveling with camping gear may not be possible. We have a bit of extra camping gear so let us know if you'd like to borrow some! Or there are cheap camping gear rentals at a local outfitter here: https://peaceoutfittersaz.com/rentals/ Flagstaff is a 30 minute drive from the wedding location and has tons of lodging options. There are also several Airbnb and VRBO options in Fort Valley which is a bit closer to the wedding location, but there are no hotels or motels there.

What kind of weather can we expect?

October in the high county of Arizona is very unpredictable. It may be balmy and sunny or rainy and cold. We will try to update this page with a more accurate prediction a few days before the event. Regardless, make sure to check the weather forecast about a week beforehand but prepare for anything (seriously, anything!!) and bring layers!

What should I wear?

We're wearing furs! We're wearing boots! We're dressing weird! Aesthetically, it won't be a full blown Renaissance Faire but there will be strong medieval goblin fairyland vibes. Overall, we just want you to be comfortable. This is an outdoor event, rain or shine, so we do not recommend wearing high heels, floor-length skirts, or anything exceptionally fancy that you don't want to get dirty.

What if I'm not comfortable driving down a bumpy dirt road in my little sedan/rental car/I just don't want to?

We will set up a shuttle from the intersection of Forest Road 794 and Forest Road 9001L (don't worry, there will be lots of signs!!) running before and after the event. Let us know in the RSVP if this is something you're interested in. Exact timing/details of the shuttle to be determined. Here is the Google maps point of the intersection of Highway 180 and Forest Road 794: https://www.google.com/maps/place/35%C2%B020'58.3%22N+111%C2%B047'23.1%22W/@35.34953,-111.7903887,178m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d35.34953!4d-111.789745?entry=ttu

Alcohol??

In the spirit of DIY, this will be a semi-BYOB event. We will provide homemade mead and non-alcoholic sodas, as well as some store bought spirits for the ceremony and reception, but we encourage you to bring your own vice of choice if you plan to stay late/overnight. We intend to party all night, and the wedding location is far from any stores, so it would be a shame if we ran out!

What else do I need to know?

Flagstaff is high elevation and arid. The wedding location itself will be at about 8200ft, Flagstaff at about 6000-7000ft. If you are visiting from lower elevations you might experience mild elevation sickness. The only good treatments are getting here a few days early to acclimate and chewing coca leaves... and we don't have any coke. You'll want to drink more water than usual, get good sleep, and come hang out a few days in advance of the wedding.
