Most of you know our story, if not the whole thing- you know it in parts. Some of you have been in our lives forever, through high school and beyond or for the last 7 years we have been in Mackay. Each of you hold a special part in our hearts, so below is a quick snapshot of how we came to be.
Jeremy and I became quite good friends in High School. We would play golf, go to the driving range, go to the movies, watch the footy together, go to parties, go bowling, hack each others Facebook (write cringe-yyy posts about each other), he would watch me play softball and I would watch him play football.
Cue end of high school, end of year 12 and like some friendships they end. Ours did, we stopped talking, stopped hanging out and continued with our lives -- I focused on Uni, he got a job in the city.
About two years later, I was walking around QUT - City Campus and I saw Jeremy, on campus, sitting down with one of our mutual friends. I walked over had a chat and was invited to lunch with them both (sorry Mum, I ditched the lecture).
Life really does work in mysterious ways, after bumping into Jeremy that day and enjoying a lovely lunch with a few bevvies at Gilhooley's we decided to make lunch a thing and would meet every few weeks, on Friday for lunch and a couple of drinks. Naturally we started hanging out more, we would go on beach trips, continued going to the driving range and became each others best friend.
It wasn't for several months after that initial reconnection, sometime in November 2013 at Brunswick Heads, that Jeremy struck up the courage to kiss me.
Now 9 years later here we are, planning a wedding, and wishing you would all join us in celebrating not only our love, but our greatest friendship.
The year 2020, was tough and challenging for all but ours ended on a high. We had been saving for our wonderful Whitsunday Island Hopping holiday all year. We were jumping from Hamilton Island, to Long Island then to Daydream Island. It was on this holiday that Jeremy proposed.
We just have to take it back a little bit for you to understand why it was such a special, yet very surprising proposal.
6 Years ago, when Jeremy and I moved to Mackay, we begun setting up some of our own traditions. Things to maintain when living so far away from our loved ones and friends. One of our traditions was to always play a round of golf on Boxing Day.
So on the 26th of December, 2020, Jeremy and I jumped on our ferry and set about our golf day on Dent Island. Nothing was out of the ordinary, we were dressed up in our finest golf gear, esky in the buggie stocked with cider and plenty of spare golf balls.
The weather was up and down all day, from hot and sunny to overcast and showers. But Jeremy and I made the most of our time on this Island and played some of the best golf we have in a while. Cue hole number 16 -- I was one shot up -- as Jeremy kept hitting balls in the water or in the shrubbery. It was a beautiful hole it overlooked Hamilton Island wharf with stretches' of blue sea on either side and big green islands in the distance. I had to get some quick snaps of the view. I walked to my ball and was hitting for one over par when I sunk a long putt - I was cheering - I picked up my ball out of the hole and started walking towards the buggy all the while wishing Jeremy luck on trying to keep up with my game - my head was getting pretty big at this moment - when Jeremy demanded I go back and look in the hole. He was on one knee with his putter in his hand -- again I didn't think anything of it, I assumed he was lining his putt up -- so I responded to him 'Why?' 'It's your putt' to which he said 'No woman, check the hole, I've already putted.' I started walking towards the hole, then he said 'Anything else in there?' I peered in and saw a little black box at the bottom of the hole, I pulled it out, opened the box and all he said was 'So will you marry me ?' No cute little speech, just a straight up, so will you marry me. I was flabbergasted! I did not see this one coming, I was in my competitive zone, nothing seemed out of the ordinary as we always play on boxing day - which is why it was a perfect proposal.
