It was October, 2016 Kim's friend had convinced her to apply for a job working as a desk attendant in their college dorm. While on the job Kim started to take notice of one of the RAs that also worked there, his name was Jared. Shamelessly Kim started to look just a little bit nicer for all of her shifts and even traded nights to be on at the same time as Jared. Eventually Jared started to take notice too and began spending a little more time sitting with Kim at the desk. After many nights of card games, listening to music, and making up excuses to see each other they went on their first date.

There had been many occasions that Kim had thought Jared was going to propose, times she had done her hair and make up extra nice. So when Jared asked to go hiking at Devil's Lake State Park on that Saturday she had learned not to get her hopes up. Little did she know her family was in on the whole thing. Aaron came into the kitchen to let Kim know that they were taking family pictures, so she should look nice for when she gets back. It was a warm day hiking up to Devil's Doorway and Jared was a lot quieter than usual, but Kim had learned by now not to get her hopes up. Once they reached the top Jared got down on one knee and asked if Kim would marry him. Jared had a friend placed in position to capture the moment and it was perfect. Kim was so shocked she said "thank you" instead of "yes".
