Our Wedding

How They Met

Jacob and Kira first connected on a dating app called Bumble in 2017. After talking for a couple of weeks, they agreed to have an official first date and met in Royal Oak on August 12, at a now-closed bar called Red Fox English Pub. They talked for hours at the bar over a couple of Oberons until the waitress told them she was leaving (aka, kicking them out), so they decided to continue the date and walked around downtown Royal Oak. As Kira will attest, this was probably the most Jacob has ever talked in the whole relationship.

Balancing Life 

For the first couple years of the relationship, they had to balance out and manage each other’s busy schedules – Jacob finishing up his physical therapy program, and Kira managing a popular hockey arena (Suburban Ice Farmington Hills) and coaching multiple hockey teams. There was lots of driving, meet ups, movie nights, and sometimes just lengthy text/phone conversations. In the height of the 2020 Covid Pandemic, the two, living with both of their parents, had to find new, creative ways to date – zoom dinner/movie dates, watching new shows at the same time (just miles apart), family zoom game nights, etc. They always found a way to make it work.

The Proposal

Jacob proposed at Sunset on August 23rd , 2020 at the Lake Michigan Overlook in Michigan’s Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The perfectly laid out plan became more stressful than anticipated when our chauffeur, Ryne Kitchen (one of Jacob’s best men) took a “longer than expected” off-road, forest detour. Alas, he made sure that we made it to the spot with just minutes to spare; and throughout, Kira remained calm as she really just thought our friends wanted to see a Michigan Sunset! Heart-racing, and struggling to get the ring out of his back pocket, Jacob dropped to a knee and Kira said yes! The crowd around us cheered and wished us all the blessings.

Where They Are Now

At the end of 2020, just over 3 years into their relationship and now newly engaged, Kira and Jacob (and Cinder) bought their first house together in Redford, Michigan – which also marked the first time they would consistently see each other more than once or twice a week (in 3 years!!). They welcomed an 8-week old Australian Shepherd to the family in December 2021. Blaze has been the perfect addition to their pack! It has been quite the journey already, and we can’t wait to celebrate everything we’ve had, and everything that is to come, with you in August!
