Ok guys here's the deal: When in Texas you eat delicious Mexican food, its an unwritten but universally obeyed law of the land. AND you're probably not from San Antonio, and if you are you've probably never been here but bruh... BRUH. This is our favorite place to eat in town by such a long way. The food is amazing, they give you rad salsa and queso to start out with, the horchata is AMAZING (if you have no idea what horchata is, its the best drink ever. Its like cinnamon rice milk over ice and its incredible. Just get it to have it. You won't regret it.) Anyway, its so rad. 10/10 would recommend the molcajete. Everything is top drawer and tastes like it was made with love by your abuela (grandma).
True Facts: The same family who's Estate we are getting married on also founded the town of Gruene! This is a classic example of a small, quaint, Texas town! The town itself is great fun to walk around in and explore. There are a bunch of little shops and lots to do! More True Facts: Gruene has the oldest still operational dance hall in the whole state of Texas called Gruene Hall! Also in the town are a number of local restaurants which are great. 10/10 would recommend taking time to walk around here, especially if y'all are from out of town!
A Texas Hill Country classic! We did this for Kira's birthday this past year and it was so fun! That being said, 10/10 would recommend sunscreen! The company that we went with is located just down the road from our venue and right outside Gruene. Basically it involves you renting inner-tubes and floating down the Guadalupe River! Sit back, relax, and let the current carry you down through beautiful Texas! You can also rent cooler tubes so you can bring drinks with you! There are trips ranging from an hour and a half to six hours depending on how much relaxation you want. They have designated exit points which you can't miss and shuttles that pick you up and ferry you back to your car! We would highly suggest you do this if you can swing it!
Who doesn't like to kick back and enjoy some wine while watching the sunset over the Texas hills? Well this can be you! Winery on the Gruene is located in Gruene and is an award winning winery! You can taste all the wines they make, or you can also make your own! It costs $3.00 for 4 tastings of any of their 30 plus wines. You can also keep a souvenir glass and get 4 tastings for $5.00, so its a pretty solid deal!
A 1920's Cotton Gin turned Restaurant on the banks of the Guadalupe River! A great place to have lunch or dinner. Classic Texas food that makes you feel all warm and happy both inside and out! Great atmosphere, great food, sit inside or outside! The onion rings are pretty dang rad too if I may say so myself.
Wow there's a lot to do here in town but the main attraction and most common thing people do is go to the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk winds it' way all around downtown and its a really rad place! There are shops, restaurants, bars, street bands, and so many other things to see along the way! You can also take a ride in one of the many boats that run on the river and take a guided tour around thanks to your friendly boat captain! Overall a fun time for everyone!
Ahhh so much culture and great food can be found here! I'll leave y'all with this: Enjoy the sights and flavors of old Mexico at Historic Market Square, a favorite of locals and tourists for generations.
Explore over 100 locally owned shops and stalls, all at a festive indoor mall famously described as the largest Mexican market outside Mexico.
Find authentic Talavera pottery, exotic curios and handcrafted works of art. Stay for the gourmet Mexican cuisine at Mi Tierra and La Margarita, or kick back at the Farmers Market Food Court and enjoy the show on the stage.
You know you want to go there now... *smiles and gives thumbs up*
Largely overlooked by a lot of tourists but a real pearl for those who find it! (Get it, like Peal District... I'll see myself out now) Everything from a farmers market to local storefronts and restaurants. To see a solid list of places to check out here look at their website! Also located here is one of the locations of one of Kira and I's favorite coffee company, Local Coffee! They brew coffee from Merit Coffee, a small roaster here in town. Lots to do, see, and explore here!
Many a good hike and camping trip has been had here. If you're someone who likes the outdoors (or even someone who doesn't) going here for a day hike is a great time. There are hikes for the hardcore hikers who want their legs to fall off, and hikes for those who just wanna enjoy the beautiful Texas landscape. It's not far from San Antonio at all so for sure check it out and opt outside. Oh! And there's real dinosaur tracks you can see here so there's that too.
-Hey how do dinosaurs pay for things?
- With Tyrannosaurus Checks!
-... I'll leave now...
I mean, it's the Alamo come on! If you're here you gotta see it. Remeber the Alamo my friends and keep it 100.
Also, if you've read this far in the list, thank you for taking the time to do so. You rule and to quote The Durantula "You're the real MVP."
Fiesta Texas is super rad if you can swing it. The roller coasters are huge and the whole vibe of the park is awesome. My favorite ride is the Iron Rattler; it's mega fast and a solid ride. But forreal, 6 Flags Fiesta Texas is a really fun way to spend a day, get all the thrills, and hopefully not throw up.
