Kirenia and Dylan first noticed each other through Instagram, where they shared several mutual friends. Kirenia mentioned to a mutual friend that she thought Dylan was attractive, while Dylan was expressing the very same feelings about Kirenia to his close friends. Although nothing immediately came from those brief interactions, neither of them realized that their paths were already beginning to cross. As time went on, they were both invited separately to a baptism celebration. During the party, Milagros and Anthony Martinez sat with the Matos family and began talking about how Dylan should introduce himself to Kirenia. Eventually, Milagros made her way over to Kirenia and encouraged her to go speak to him, but she was far too shy and continuously refused. She even avoided turning around to look in Dylan’s direction. Later in the evening, Kirenia heard her brother Anthony calling her over. As she turned to find him, she realized he was sitting at the same table as Dylan, leaving her with no choice but to finally walk over and talk to him. What started as a simple conversation quickly became something much more. To this day, neither of them remembers exactly how long they talked or even everything they discussed — aside from the fact that Dylan revealed he was a Jets fan, much to Kirenia’s disappointment. But somehow, it felt like they had talked for hours. Before the night ended, Dylan handed Kirenia his phone and asked her to put her number into it. The very next week, Dylan asked Kirenia on their first date. He picked her up from Milagros and Anthony’s house, where she was staying at the time, and took her to dinner at Yellowfin on LBI. After dinner, they headed to play mini golf on the island. During the game, Dylan quickly discovered Kirenia’s strong personality and competitive spirit. At one point during the date, Kirenia asked Dylan if he played any sports. He casually mentioned golf and cornhole. Kirenia looked confused and responded that she had never heard of cornhole before. As they were leaving mini golf, they spotted a cornhole set nearby, and Dylan decided it was the perfect opportunity to show off his skills. Kirenia laughed and replied, “Oh, I call this bean bag toss — I didn’t know this was a sport.” Even after the date seemed to be over, neither of them was quite ready for the night to end. Dylan drove Kirenia to the bay, where they sat and talked for hours until nearly 2 a.m. They spoke about everything — their careers, life goals, hobbies, childhoods, family life, past relationships, and even some of the more difficult moments and tragedies they had experienced. As the night went on, they grew more comfortable with each other, eventually cuddling together on a bench by the bay. At one point, Dylan gave Kirenia his hoodie, conveniently covered in his cologne, so it smelled just like him. Somewhere between the late-night conversations, laughter, vulnerability, and quiet moments together, they both realized something special was beginning. When the night finally came to an end, Dylan drove Kirenia back to Milagros and Anthony’s house and waited outside until he saw that she made it safely inside.
