If you choose, join the bridal party and stay at The Old St. Francis School. Conveniently located in downtown Bend and a 10 min walk to the wedding venue, Old St. Francis School was transformed from 1936 Catholic schoolhouse to, in 2004, a hotel complete with classrooms-turned-lodging rooms, a pub, brewery, a movie theater, live music bookings, and a fantastic soaking pool. McMenamins honors the property's former life by featuring extensive artwork that pays homage to the history of the school and the surrounding community. Photos, memorabilia, artists' renderings and students' artwork adorn the walls, making the hotel a unique gallery of sorts. Take note of the unusual custom-made light fixtures and absolutely stunning tile mosaics that surround the soaking pool. And in the Art and Ed Houses, wander slowly to discover secret hallways, secret rooms and a secret bar!

Located in the Deschutes River near the Old Mill District in Bend, Oregon, this in-water amenity offers a variety of river recreation opportunities including tubing, kayaking, and surfing. Nearly every time in Bend, we walk or take the bikes to the Old Mill and stop along the bridge to watch the surfers.

Joe's favorite spot to run Jon to the ground. Phil’s Trail is a 12.4 mile out and back trail located near Bend, Oregon. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking, trail running and is one of the most popular mountain biking trailheads in the Pacific Northwest.

Benham Falls are rapids of the Deschutes River located between Sunriver and Bend, Oregon, United States. With a pitch of 22.5°, they are rated Class 5 for watercraft, and are the largest falls on the upper Deschutes. The falls were created by the eruption of nearby Lava Butte approximately 6,000 years ago, as the lava flow dammed the Deschutes, forming a lake known as Lake Benham. The river eventually flowed over the dam, draining the lake and thus forming Benham Falls. A footbridge connects the forest road to an easy-to-navigate trail near the river and falls. The shady area has lots of wildlife and flowers. The Forest Service has established a few lookouts over the gorge for viewers. Hikers and mountain bikers who continue on this trail pass Dillon Falls and Lava Island Falls, and eventually, the city of Bend.

Benham Falls East Trailhead

Smith Rock's scenic views of deep river canyons and sheer cliffs of tuff and basalt make it a destination for adventurers of all kinds, especially rock climbers. Generally considered the birthplace of modern American sport climbing, Smith Rock is host to hundreds of cutting-edge climbing routes. With miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, you might also see golden and bald eagles, prairie and peregrine falcons, mule deer, river otter, and the occasional beaver. This mother-nature-out-did-herself sort of place and natural attraction sits ​30 minutes from Bend. You can opt for an easy 2 ½ mile stroll on flat ground with plenty of scenic rock and riverfront views by taking the River Trail from the park bridge around to Monkey Face – a 350 foot pillar of rock that resembles a monkey’s face. Or you can take the short cut, a 2/3 of a mile steep hike up the Misery Ridge Trail (elevation 3,360 feet) for out-of-this-world views including the entire Central Oregon Cascade mountain range. A favorite 4-mile hike is to start on the River Trail towards Monkey Face then ascend the Mesa Verde Trail up to Misery Ridge and back down to the footbridge ending at the parking lot. With the opening of the Summit Trail loop, hikers can now get in an 8-mile round trip walk.

Smith Rock State Park

Formed 10,000 years ago by the Newberry Volcano, Boyd Cave is a lava tube cave located 12 miles southeast of Bend. It’s accessed by a small opening in the cave’s ceiling and a 20-foot set of steel stairs leading to the cave floor. Adventurers can trek about 1,880 feet inside admiring basalt and pāhoehoe formations and exploring this chilly underground world

Just minutes south of town, you’ll step into a different time and place. The&nbsp;museum is set on 135 wooded acres, with indoor and outdoor experiences to delight the whole family.

High Desert Museum

Lava Cast Forest is a 1 mile loop trail that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. Formed approximately 7,000 years ago when hot molten lava flowed from the nearby Newberry Volcano, the landscape holds lava casts of the ancient trees that were growing there at the time. Over the years, Ponderosa pine, penstemon flowers, and Indian paintbrush have flourished in the rocky terrain adding life and beautiful splashes of color to the landscape.

Pilot Butte is like Bend’s North Star: You can see it from almost anywhere in town. A trek to the top of this extinct cinder cone is worth adding to your bucket list for epic views of town. The paved road is open to cars or hoof it up several hiking paths for a brisk bit of exercise and bragging rights.&nbsp;Every turn provides a different view of Bend below and the great expanse of Central Oregon in the distance. Whether you drive or hike, the view from the top is truly spectacular. Informational signs highlight points of interest and historical facts for those who want to make their visit an educational moment. You’ll also find benches and a low, circular wall where you are welcome to just sit and gaze at stunning mountains, trees, and rock formations for as far as the eye can see. Jon's go to coffee shop in town. Throttled with a deep passion for old school&nbsp;craftsmanship, vintage motorcycles, hand-roasted coffee, craft beer and quality goods –&nbsp;The Spoken Moto brand was born in what was previously an old, forgotten mechanic’s shop known in it’s day as the “Pine Shed” in the Old Mill/Box Factory area.

Easily our favorite sandwich shop in Bend, if not all of Oregon. “Planker” is a term used by snowboarders to describe skiers. It’s also the name of a sandwich shop on Wall St. downtown that appeals to all snowriders. And also people who don’t ski, or who waterski and who like the brewski. They roast their own meats, braise their pork and make all their own spreads, chutneys and relishes using local ingredients whenever possible, and stack them all on bread baked right in Bend.

Our first stop in Bend is usually Pizza Mondo for takeout Friday evenings with the rest of the family.

Our favorite spot for a craft cocktail. Velvet Lounge calls themselves “a funky little haunt in downtown Bend.” Striving to bring the outside in as a mountain town just miles down the road from Mt. Bachelor, it features reclaimed wood walls, actions sports on the tube, unique cocktails made from both local and fresh ingredients, and the best canned microbrews around.

It's no Ululanis, but its one of our favorite ways to beat the heat in the summer, second to floating the Deschutes! Dakine is Hawaiian slang, loosely translated to mean “whatchamacallit”, but at their food carts patrons know exactly what they’ll find; 27 vibrant flavors of authentic Hawaiian shaved ice. Served straight up or with a scoop of ice cream (an island favorite), Dakine Grindz are a far cry from run-of-the-mill snow cones. Order up a single, bright flavor or create a custom combination; there’s no wrong way to enjoy it.

Our favorite taco joint with fantastic margaritas. El Sancho was on the leading edge of the food truck revolution and set up a humble taco cart back in 2010. The El Sancho following reached cult status and, to keep up with demand, the team opened a bricks and mortar shop. The menu and vibe reflects the owners’ travels through Mexico, which, combined with the Pacific Northwest’s culture, have created a unique style and approach. Piping hot corn tortillas cradle the freshest ingredients for the purest flavors; beef barbacoa, mushroom, pollo, lengua, fried shrimp, grilled fish, chorizo, Oaxacan.

I know 10 Barrel has made its way to Portland and beyond, but you can't beat the original. Great food, amazing drinks and a fun atmosphere. The local brewery started in 2006 and now has pubs in Boise, Portland, Denver, and San Diego.

Our favorite brunch spot. They have a small garden and sculptures on the property which is fun to explore while you wait for a table. And you will wait, but we promise its worth it! Grab some coffee or something a little stronger while you wait. Chow features live music most weekends and outdoor seating most of the year.

Our go to market for the best selection of local beverages. They also do a free winetasting every Friday from 3pm-6pm! Newport Avenue Market, located (you guessed it) on Newport Ave, would love to be your personal food concierges, with the answers to anything, from cooking tips, recipes and side dishes, to freshly baked desserts and wine, beer, and spirits pairings. A 19-time winner of “Best Grocery Store”, they support local producers and offer an expansive selection of high-quality, classic and trending food and beverages. We’re talking a 60-foot “Great Wall of Beer” (a curated selection of 500 craft beers and the area’s most diverse collection of local and regional ciders), a wine selection that’s out of this world (not to mention enough vino to fill Mirror Pond), and a liquor store stocked with locally distilled, specialty spirits and trusty “go-tos”. Despite their modest size, they carry specialty food items and a wide array of local, regional, and international foods. &nbsp;
