Nottingham Road is situated in the heart of the beautiful KwaZulu-Natal Midlands Meander. Easily reached from the N3 National roadway between Johannesburg and Durban, Nottingham Road is also used as a stopover en-route to the Drakensberg.

There are quaint little taverns, historic landmarks, stud farms and sheep farms dating back to pioneering days, so much for visitors to do and see. Nottingham Road plays host to a number of events during the year including polo matches. Trout fishing is also a big past time for locals and visitors with well-stocked waters of different breeds of trout, for fly-fishing enthusiasts.

The most stunning Thompsons Bay Tidal Pool is the very same location as this beautiful spot!

Fun factor: it’s breathtakingly beautiful. This short walk will soothe the soul.

Fitness level: beginner. It’s a short and easy walk to actual hole in the wall, so after you take in the views and snap some photos, you’ll need to carry walking along the beach if you want to get in your 30 – 60min of exercise for the day.

Suitability for Kids: absolutely. Easy to get to and on the beach. You know what’s coming….make it a beach day!

What we loved most:

– standing in the hole, looking into the ocean, you experience the restorative power of nature. In full, faith affirming and soul soothing dose.

– it turns out this is just beyond Thomson’s tidal pool that we featured yesterday! So, in fact, you can have a 3-in-1 experience here: take in the views; frolic in the tidal pool; and walk on the beach. A fun and fabulous excursion!

In short: we know many people are drawn here for the Instagram photo, but don’t leave without the full experience which should also include a walk/run along the beach, a dip in the tidal pool, and maybe even a full on beach day

The Ballito Farmer’s Market is a vibrant and exciting destination located within the green rolling hills of the KZN North Coast. The market offers a unique and entertaining experience with over 150 traders that’s sure to delight visitors of all ages. With an abundance of open space, there is plenty of room for families to spread out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

We have a variety of local exhibitors, producers and traders offering an array of products and experiences including fresh farm produce, fresh cut flowers and a nursery, unique and local retail, outdoor and casual fashion, kid’s entertainment and activities, art and sculptures, hobbies, crafted goods, lifestyle products and outdoor activities.

Upon a hill in the Shongweni Valley, KZN overlooking the majestic Kirk Falls sits The Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market. Just a short drive meandering through the picturesque cane fields bright and early every Saturday morning from 7:00am to 13:00pm & every last Sunday from 08:00am to 13:00pm, you will find a buzz of activity. Our local traders sell everything from fresh produce, deli, food, crafts and art. The market has an ambience like no other, which is complimented by the local talented musicians who perform every week on two stages, we often have the likes of Qadasi, Tanner Wareham and Indeep.

The market is a space for the whole family to enjoy and spend time together (pets included!), kids can run free and also take part in some of the activities such as The Shongweni Express Train rides, pony rides, merry-go-rounds, jungle gyms. If you would like to take a walk on the wild side we have a short nature trail. Adults are welcome to join us in The Standing Room in the main hall where we serve our very own craft beer and gin.

We are open rain or shine as we are all undercover and we are fully wheelchair accessible.

Old North at Karibu is a local Bar and Restaurant serving a wide variety of cuisine and beverages including craft beer and G&T's on tap!
