There are trails to explore at Mount Mitchell State Park, an observation deck, picnic areas, a gift shop, museum and a concession stand. There is no entry fee.

The Asheville Art Museum is kid-friendly! In fact, it has a whole a dedicated children’s area on the second floor that offers a variety of exhibits to inspire and delight. The kids’ area (called the Art PLAYce) includes a craft table complete with markers, scissors, glue and paper, as well as a wall for Magnatiles, a foam block area and even a kaleidoscope by the window. There are also several children’s books, blocks and even a wall of colorful pegs where kids can design their own sculpture.
