Our Story

Our Story

Our story begins in July of 2019, shortly after Krissy had started her first year of dental school at the University of Michigan and Cody was working at General Motors and living in Royal Oak. Like many “modern” love stories now, they first met on Bumble, a dating app. After a few weeks of messaging, they agreed to go on a date.

August 8th, 2019
Cody drove from Royal Oak to Ann Arbor where they went to Tomukun for Korean BBQ. It’s important to note that a few weeks prior, Krissy had gone to Tomukun with her parents and sister, Kaitlin. However, when she went with them, instead of cooking it themselves, like you typically do at a Korean BBQ place, her parents opted to order from the menu where the restaurant cooks it. When you order it that way it just isn’t as good, so on that first date, Krissy was especially impressed by Cody’s Korean BBQ cooking skills and her love for Korean BBQ was born.

Fall and Winter 2019
Cody, who loves to drive, took countless trips to Ann Arbor and Krissy, who does not like to drive, took quite a few trips to Royal Oak. When the world shut down in March of 2020, Krissy went back to her parents house in Illinois and Cody stayed in Royal Oak, so hours were spent FaceTiming and talking on the phone.

June 20, 2020
A few weeks after Krissy had come back to Ann Arbor for in person classes, a friend had a birthday party. Cody and Krissy had a great evening with friends and at the end of the night they walked down the street to Buffalo Wild Wings to get food. They got their wings, said bye to friends, walked back to her apartment, and as they sat down to eat, Krissy decided she was done waiting for him to tell her that he loved her, and finally blurted it out. Cody quickly said it right back.

In March Krissy’s drives to Royal Oak finally came to an end and they moved in together to their apartment in Superior Township, MI.

A week after moving in, and after months of waiting and obsessing on Krissy’s part, Stanley, their Newfoundland/poodle, finally was ready to come home. In June, Stanley’s brother, Finn, a mini Newfoundland/poodle, also came to live with them.

Krissy, Cody, Stanley, and Finn went for an evening walk in the arboretum. When they got to the waterfront, right before Cody got down on one knee to propose, an old man walked up and asked them to keep moving along because a couple would be coming to the spot soon to propose. With that unsolicited queue, Cody asked Krissy to marry him.
