Our Wedding

Sometimes, the best things in life come from the people who know us best. For AJ and me, that was Paul and Jan—our wise, wonderful friends who somehow knew we’d fit together like salt and pepper. From the moment we met, it felt like they’d sprinkled a little magic into our lives. AJ’s first impression of me still makes me laugh. He says he thought to himself, “Don’t mess this up with her, she could be the one.” And then, after about five minutes, he upgraded that to, “Ope, she’s definitely the one. DO NOT let her know how weird you are!” Little did he know, I’d fall in love with all of him—including the “weird” bits he was so nervous to reveal. My first impression of AJ was equally unforgettable. He wasn’t just handsome (though he absolutely is); he had this way of listening—truly listening. His humility was disarming, his laughter contagious, and he had this incredible knack for making me laugh so much that time seemed to disappear. From the beginning, being around him felt easy, like slipping into a rhythm we’d always known. As our relationship deepened, we both knew we’d found something special. For AJ, that realization came in a series of moments. The first was during the Super Bowl when he came over to meet my family for the first time. Sitting there, surrounded by the people I love most, he says he felt this quiet certainty: he’d met his person. The second was during a simple, sweet day at the zoo, when we held hands for the first time. That small gesture felt like the beginning of something extraordinary—and he was right. But the moment AJ says he knew without a doubt that I was the woman he’d spend the rest of his life with was when I met his family. Watching how naturally I connected with them and how much they adored me solidified everything he’d been feeling. For him, it was the final piece of the puzzle that confirmed I was his forever. For me, the moment I knew was when we introduced each other to our families. Seeing how seamlessly he fit into my world—and how naturally I fit into his—made everything click. It felt like all the pieces of our lives were coming together, perfectly aligned. We talked about marriage and kids often, and though I knew a proposal was coming, I didn’t know when. That’s why the moment he asked me to marry him remains one of the best surprises of my life. It happened in the gazebo on Main Street, a setting as sweet and romantic as the man himself. When he got down on one knee, tears of joy spilled from my eyes—I couldn’t believe this was the start of our forever. And just when I thought the moment couldn’t get better, his parents jumped out of the bushes to celebrate with us. It was pure magic (and a little comedic flair) . What makes our relationship special is simple yet profound: we get each other. We love each other more than we love being right. We’re a team, and whether we’re navigating life’s challenges or just grabbing groceries, you can bet we’re laughing and making the best out of every situation. With AJ, every day is an adventure, and I can’t wait to see where God takes us on this journey next.
