Where is the wedding being held?
Kirk in the Hills is a Scottish Presbyterian Church built in the traditional gothic style and inspired by Melrose Abbey in Melrose, Scotland. Colonel Edwin S. George willed his massive estate in Bloomfield and his mansion, Cedarholm, to the Presbyterian Church upon his death in 1947, with the intention of having a gothic cathedral built on the site. The Colonel was inspired by the beautiful Cathedrals in Europe which he witnesses throughout his travels. Completed in 1959 and featuring hundreds of intricate stained glass windows and detailed carvings, every little detail in this church has significance. The Kirk also features an extensive art collection ranging from the 9th century through the Renaissance, consisting of painting, sculpture, stained glass, and more.
Will there be a reception after the wedding?
Yes! There will be a small, closed reception immediately following the ceremony for close family and friends.
Do I need to RSVP for the wedding ceremony?
No, you don't have to RSVP if you're planning to attend the ceremony. We welcome your congratulatory messages and calls!
How do I know if I've been invited to the reception versus the ceremony only?
If you received an paper invitation to the ceremony, or if you were invited by word of mouth, or if you just heard about the wedding by some other means, you're more than welcome to attend the ceremony! We want to have as many people in the sanctuary for the ceremony as possible; all are welcome.
If you received an RSVP card for the reception along with your paper invitation, this means you are invited to the closed reception as well. Though we would like to have everyone join us for the reception, we have a limited amount of space.
What will the wedding ceremony be like?
Kristyn and Jacob share a lifelong desire for a traditional wedding in a cathedral setting. The Kirk, where they first met, is the perfect setting for such an occasion! Jacob's Scottish ancestry and passion for his clan, Irvine, aligns nicely with the Scottish Presbyterian values upheld by the Kirk. Thus, the ceremony will blend the reverent liturgy of an Orthodox service with Scottish custom.
