In 2017, Brian had a rough day selling copiers and texted Spencer Hays (best man) about getting a drink after work. Turns out, Spencer worked with Krystal and they were celebrating her going away party that evening so he invited Brian along. Krystal was preparing to leave for Virginia, and Brian was headed to Chicago in just a few months to embark on a new career opportunity. After a very brief introduction, they didn’t know if they’d ever see each other again (frankly, Krystal hardly knew Brian existed).
Fast forward to Summer 2019, Spencer invited Brian back to Indy for his and Joel Hale’s birthdays. More importantly, Spencer emphasized Krystal’s attendance and that she had recently moved back to Indy. Brian and Krystal hit it off that night and after a couple weeks of texting and FaceTiming, Brian convinced Krystal to come visit him in Chicago. Brian got to show Krystal the best city in the country – Summertime Chi. After celebrating the Fourth of July together, Brian asked Krystal to commit to a long-distance relationship where they continued weekend trips back and forth to visit each other. Soon after, Brian got to meet Talia and quickly fell in love with her too. In less than a year, COVID forced everyone home, but for us, it was a blessing in disguise because it allowed us to spend more time together than we were used to in our first year.
Over the next 4 years together, we have enjoyed countless nights cooking and smoking meats, laughing to Brian’s dad jokes, learning ways to out-bartender the other through espresso martinis, working out in our home gym (Brian got Krystal addicted to yoga), growing a vegetable garden, competing against each other in pickleball, hiking, traveling, supporting Talia’s extracurricular activities (Brian was coach for soccer in 2023), and spending time with our families among other fun activities.
In September 2023, Brian, Krystal, and Talia made plans to visit Tyler and Karla Will (Krystal’s sister and brother-in-law) in Florida for their dad’s surprise retirement celebration. The whole Negron family was scheduled to be together, under one roof, for the first time since before 2017. Little did Krystal know, Brian had bigger plans for this family reunion and surprise retirement celebration. With Jose Sr. and Miriam’s blessing, Brian was going to propose to Krystal in front of his parents, her parents, her siblings, Talia, and all 6 of her nieces and nephews. What Krystal thought was quality sister time, turned out to be a ploy to get her out of the house so the rest of the family could prepare for the surprise proposal. Upon Krystal’s return, she was greeted by Talia and each of her nieces and nephews holding signs that read, “Titi Krystal, will you marry Tio Brian, please?” as Brian went down on one knee. Overcome with feelings of joy, astonishment, and many tears, Krystal said, “YES!”
As we prepare for this milestone, we are excited to share that we are in the midst of another life milestone – buying our first house together. We are happy to answer any questions you may have throughout this process and we thank you for your patience and support.
To all of our family and friends - we are so excited and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our big day with you. Cheers to you and the many memories to come!
