Hotel block

We have secured a hotel block at Skycity hotel for all our guests. Stay right in the city centre, a short walk to Queen street, the Viaduct and Skytower right at your doorstep! The&nbsp;special room rate is NZD $190 per room, per night. This special rate does not include breakfast. However there are several restaurants in and around the hotel for guests to enjoy. Welcome to our city Auckland, also known as Tāmaki Makaurau in Māori. We love to explore Auckland, do fun stuff and of course eat!!! Here's our little Auckland guide of our favourites for anyone who's visiting NZ for the first time, or for people who have already visited/live here to explore our backyard!

THINGS TO SEE

<a href="https://skycityauckland.co.nz/sky-tower/skyjump-skywalk/skyjump/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sky tower</a> - You can get 360 views of Auckland from up here. If you feel like jumping off a building, safely obviously, then check out the skyjump here.

<a href="https://www.aucklandzoo.co.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Auckland Zoo</a> - We love the Auckland Zoo. The last time we went, Sre would not move from the Orangutan viewing deck because she found them so cute. I had to drag her out of there! This one's for the parents with the kiddies or anyone who loves animals, there's never an age limit to visit the zoo. Check out the cool paid experiences they host like feeding giraffes and hanging out with red pandas!

<a href="https://www.motat.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">MOTAT</a> - This one's for all the Transport and technology enthusiasts. Take a ride on the old tram, see cool historic planes and learn about the history of technology. You can even make a local call from their old red telephone booth, or be like Sre and pose for photos in it.

Mount Eden - Feel like doing a good walk for some rewarding views? This one's for you. Walk up to Mount Eden, the highest volcano in Auckland at 196m tall (dormant of course), and enjoy spectacular views of the city from up there. A large, well-preserved crater, some 50 metres deep, is contained within the summit cone. Don't forget to pack a good pair of shoes for this. <a href="https://missionbay.co.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mission Bay</a> - Have a relaxing afternoon here with good food, spot cute dogs on walks and enjoy the lovely views of the beach. Shopping - This one's for you if you are a shopaholic, or a window shopper who looks at items and goes 'Wow this is beautiful. I love it' and then puts it back. Head to Queens street and <a href="https://www.westfield.co.nz/newmarket" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Newmarket </a>for a mix of everything. <a href="https://neatplaces.co.nz/stories/comprehensive-guide-ponsonby" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ponsonby</a> is perfect if you love cute boutiques and want to check out some NZ designers. There are also loads of great restaurants in this area.

If you are a 'I keep an eye out for a good deal' person like Sre, the brand new <a href="https://www.manawabay.co.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Manawa Bay</a> is a great outlet shopping spot! Night market - Experience the melting pot of culture that is Auckland by visiting the night markets. They take place every Wednesday in Botany and Thursday in Henderson. Clevedon farmers market - Start your Sunday with a trip to this beautiful farmers market full of colours, smells and flavours. Kyle recommends the Mexican food truck for tasty empanadas, the pretzel stall and refreshing real fruit ice cream.

THINGS TO DO

Wine tours at Waiheke - One of our FAVOURITE things to do is visiting Waiheke and drinking wine!!! Kyle also proposed to me at Waiheke, so it makes it all the more special to us.

Waiheke is a beautiful little island, full of vineyards and of course, amazing wine and food. It is just a 30-40 min ferry ride from the Auckland downtown ferry terminal. You can pick a vineyard to relax at or hop from vineyard to vineyard. I've linked here <a href="https://www.fullers.co.nz/destinations-and-experiences/experiences/day-tours/hop-on-hop-off-explorer-bus/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">a hop on hop off bus </a>that takes you to all the important spots around the island which is perfect! If you would like, you can even stay a night at one of the many beautiful properties or vineyards here. Tip: you MUST check if the vineyards and restaurants are open on the day you visit.

<a href="https://millerroad.co.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Miller Road Fragrance</a> - Want a unique souvenir to remember your trip to New Zealand? Then head over to Miller Road Fragrance to custom make your own perfume with their 2.5 hour workshop and make a perfume that will always remind you of New Zealand.

PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK

Now we get to our FAVOURITE thing to do in Auckland, or anywhere really! EAT! BOY OH BOY DO WE LOVEEEE TO EAT!!! <a href="https://whiteandwongs.nz/auckland/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">White and Wong's</a> - Great Asian food, great cocktails and great atmosphere. Our favourites here are their dumplings, xiao long bao and drunken noodles!

<a href="https://www.instagram.com/sushitrain_chancery/?hl=en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sushi Train at Chancery</a> - This is practically Kyle's second home cause he's here every now and then. Definitely the place to go if you want a good sushi fix!

<a href="https://www.cocoscantina.co.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Coco's Cantina</a> - Sre LOVES her pasta and she vouches for their truffle potato ravioli with sage brown butter.

<a href="https://www.elliottstables.co.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Elliott Stables -</a> It is a little dinning village in the city that has 12 amazing eateries. We have been to Jungle 8 here and we loved their food, drinks and the vibe of the place. Also check out Luna Bakehouse for the most beautiful pastries.

<a href="https://www.ajisen.co.nz/menu" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ajisen Ramen</a> - The go to to place for a delicious, hot ramen with a lot of ramen options to choose from.

<a href="https://www.duckislandicecream.co.nz/flavours" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Duck Island Ice Cream</a> - If you want New Zealand made artisanal ice cream, look no further than Duck Island. Their ice creamy, fresh and absolutely delicious!

<a href="https://miannchocolatefactory.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Miaan</a> - One of our favourite go to dessert spots that has beautiful desserts that look too good to eat.

<a href="https://www.facebook.com/meetfreshnz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">MeetFresh</a> - Kyle practically lives here as well. If you are obsessed with shaved ice and Asian desserts like Kyle, then definitely give this place a try. <a href="https://drrudis.co.nz/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Dr. Rudi's</a>- A popular bar that overlooks the Auckland Viaduct. They brew their own beer, serve 3ft pizzas, and also have their own bowling lanes.

<a href="https://www.starsocial.nz/venues/the-lula-inn" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Lula Inn</a> - Located right in the heart of Princes Wharf, Lula Inn has a kiwi menu and serves really good cocktails. You get beautiful views of the wharf from here.

We know a lot of our overseas guests plan to travel across New Zealand/Aotearoa when coming down here for the wedding. If you would love some help with your itineraries, need suggestions, want to know about car rentals etc., please get in touch with Sre. She would be more than happy to help you with anything. You can check out the <a href="https://www.newzealand.com/in/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Pure New Zealand</a> website, to see everything that Aotearoa has to offer. PLEASE NOTE that on the 18th of April (Good Friday), the 20th of April (Easter Sunday) and the 25th of April (ANZAC day) are public holidays. Attractions and shops are closed or have limited trading hours. If you are travelling on these days, please ensure that the places you visit are open. Some restaurants and cafes will be open but will charge a public holiday surcharge.
