Our Wedding

They say the best things come when you least expect them. Our story is definitely no exception to that. As I sat in stats class on March 28, 2024, I had no idea what would happen. While I was sitting there, I got an out-of-the-blue text from our friend Anna. Confused, I opened it, and she said something to the effect of, “I have someone for you.” She then showed me a picture of and told me a little bit about Hayden, and I was super interested. I said, “Well, what do I have to lose?” Little did I know that I would have my future wife to lose if I messed this up. I went for it, and as the gentleman I am, I added her on Snapchat. We began Snapchatting for a while, hitting it off immediately and talking all day, every day. After about a week, I was dying to meet her in person but wasn’t sure how to go about it. I realized that Auburn was playing their spring football game that coming Saturday, and we decided to finally meet there. When Saturday rolled around, I started thinking, "What am I doing, going to meet a girl?" and the nerves hit me hard. But it was amazing—we got to hang out and talk for the whole game. I realized she kept getting closer and closer until our legs finally touched. She later told me that she really wanted to hold my arm but decided that if our legs could touch, that would be enough. I left that day knowing there was definitely something special here. Hayden left that day knowing she had met her future husband. We continued to talk all the time and my birthday was coming up. The day before my birthday, I got a Snapchat from Hayden that said, "Hey, can you send me your number? I need to ask you a question." Yes, you read that right—she asked for my number. When she called, she asked, “Would it be crazy if I came to see you on your birthday?” I said, “Absolutely not, as long as it’s our first official date.” So she traveled almost two hours to Oxford and we went to get Mexican. Thus began us driving nearly two hours whenever we could to see each other. On our date, and Hayden can attest to this- I didn’t stop talking the entire time, which, if you know me, is surprising. I felt so comfortable with her, and it was so easy. That’s always been a sign to me that this thing was made to last, because we genuinely love talking to each other. We have since day one. After spending my birthday together, I told her goodbye. It began to rain on her way home, so I called to check on her. We talked even longer as I stayed on the phone with her the whole way home. A few weeks later, I decided it was time to ask her to be my girlfriend. I knew I wanted to ask her, but I was unsure how to do it. We met in Auburn, and as the day went on, we sat down on a bench at Sanford Lawn and, once again, talked for over two hours. As the conversation continued, I knew it was time, but I didn’t know how to go about it. Somehow, I found a way, and I asked her. She said yes. The rest is history. That’s the story of how we got started, but the real joy has been seeing how the Father has orchestrated events and circumstances for our good as a couple for His glory. We created a motto and mission statement for our relationship early on: “Let’s have fun and follow Jesus together.” And that has been what we strive to do every day. We’ve walked through so much, from great times to very hard ones. In those hard times together, it has only made it clearer that this is it. God has truly worked all things for our good. He has been faithful in every circumstance in our lives to draw us first to Himself, and then as he allowed us to find and love each other. We say that we are each other’s puzzle piece. I truly believe that Hayden and I were made for each other. The ways that God has made us perfectly fit the other person. God has shaped us to complement one another perfectly, with our strengths and weaknesses fitting together in a way that helps us grow together and look more like Jesus. As we look forward to our life together, our aim is to follow Him and have fun together. Above all, though, it is our hope is that through our wedding, and ultimately our marriage—Jesus is glorified and that we point each of you to Him. Jesus offers a perfect and unchanging love to each of us, and we pray that you all come to know Him personally. We are so thankful to God for bringing us together, and we are so excited to celebrate with you! -Kyle Pilkington
