Kylee and Darren's love story is a tale as old as time--the story of how two opposites attract. Kylee and Darren met while Kylee was going to UC Davis. Darren worked at Cattleman's Steakhouse in Dixon at the time. Kylee was a bicycle riding, world-traveling, vegetarian, and Darren was a duck hunting, motorcycle riding, small-town boy. And yet, somehow-- there was an instant connection. Darren knew Kylee had a love for Italian food, and decided to charm her by taking her to Il Fornaio in downtown Sacramento for their first date. Darren often jokes about how he had arrived first to dinner had texted Kylee about what she wanted to drink. She responded "whatever you're having," and Darren loved that she was so easy going and would be down for an IPA. Only later would he learn that Kylee suffered through that first beer, and was much less laid-back than he had originally anticipated. By the time dessert ended and the bill came, neither Kylee nor Darren wanted the night to end. Darren loaded Kylee up in his Ford Ranger (that had no working heater) and drove her to DeVere's Irish Pub, where they drank, laughed, thawed from the cold, and realized that one date simply wasn't enough... Kylee and Darren moved in together about a year after meeting in a little apartment in West Sacramento. Many memories were made there. Kylee began her career as a teacher, and Darren began to formulate his career plan. They were eager, young, and broke. Kylee and Darren look back at that time fondly, reminiscing on how when they first moved in to the apartment, they ate dinner on a flipped over laundry basket until they were able to save up enough money to buy a kitchen table. It was bliss. They grew in their relationship while simultaneously learning to "adult." They also welcomed their first baby into their lives during this time-- their German Shorthaired Pointer, Tule. When the couple realized that Tule could no longer pass for a dog under 25 lbs. (as required by the apartment rules) they realized that they needed to find a yard for their polka-dotted son. Shortly after, the couple moved to South Sacramento (yes, a questionable choice) and remained there for 3 years. During this time, Darren went to the police academy and began his journey into law enforcement. He was hired by the Stockton Police Department shortly after graduating from the academy, and has been kicking ass ever since. The couple matured as they settled into their respective adult responsibilities during this time. Looking back, it was a season of growth for the couple. Darren was settling into his new chaotic work schedule, and Kylee was setting her sights on new career goals. Some of the fondest memories of this period in life were the many nights spent playing games with family and friends. They also adopted their second son during this time--Reed. After years of struggle and hard work, the couple bought their first house in 2019 in Elk Grove, Ca. This home symbolized what the couple already knew all along--that they would undoubtably be together always. Kylee and Darren have spent the past 7 years growing, learning, and experiencing life together. They have supported one another through career changes, the highs and lows of daily life, and through the often tumultuous times of being a young adult. In September of 2021, Darren and Kylee went on a much-needed vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. On the first night of their vacation, Darren got down on one knee and asked Kylee the long awaited question as to whether she would be his wife. Naturally, she said an emphatic, "YES!" This new "season" of their lives is certainly one of the best ones yet. The couple continues to laugh together, and appreciate their many differences.

8 Cozy cabins have been reserved under the wedding block. Cabins can hold anywhere from 2-6 people. The dates are flexible. *You need to call to use the "Calvert/Newland" block promo.*

Miner's Camp

There are currently 8 rooms reserved at the Red Lion Inn in Auburn. There are 6 king-bed rooms, and 2 double-bed rooms available under the wedding block.

Hiking with the dogs is one of our favorite outdoor activities. The Lake Clementine trail is scenic and fun!
