Judy and Gordon are Kylie's parents. They met when Judy lived in Burlington, Iowa working at the local newspaper. Judy worked alongside Gordon's brother Ron. Ron and his wife used to throw parties at their house in Burlington which is where Kylie's mom met Kylie's dad. When Judy was preparing to move to Iowa City Kylie's aunt, Wendy, insisted that Gordon take Judy out on a date. At the time, Judy was about to start law school and Gordon had a full time job at the same company he has been at for 30+ years. Wendy said that it was Gordon's duty to take Judy out since she wasn't working. One of Kylie's favorite stories about Judy and Gordon is when the Gulf war was going on while they lived 30 miles apart. Judy called Gordon and said, “Can you come over? I'm scared.” Gordon was hesitant because he didn't want to miss any of the coverage on TV but of course, like he always does, he came to Kylie's mom's rescue.
Judy and Gordon have been married for 30 years. Their love is inspirational to Sean and Kylie. Gordon has similar energy to Sean, they are both always steady, happy and up for whatever. As for Kylie, the apple did not fall far. Judy and Kylie both express emotion loudly and have the excitement of the bunny on Zootopia. Judy and Gordon have been vital in the wedding plan process. Judy often calls Kylie with ideas multiple times per day and Kylie does the same. Sean and Kylie are so appreciative of the support they have been given by Judy and Gordon for the best day ever!
Kevin is Sean's dad. Kevin has so much love for Kylie and Sean and their dog Harriet. Whenever the couple is in town, they go over to Kevin’s house with Harriet and usually eat Kevin’s favorite takeout, Mandarine Spice. Kevin lives in Marion, IA and is a big supporter of all Iowa sports. You may find him in an Iowa State, Iowa or Coe College shirt on any given day. Kevin is known for being early and used to take half days at work just to come see Sean play football (even though he would usually arrive well before the players, he always got a good seat!).
You might recognize Kevin as he is in the Iowa Rock-And-Roll Hall of Fame. Kevin is a true rockstar and just recently had a new album come out called “When April Comes.” He also wrote a song about Sean and Kylie called “Would You Like to Dance?” You can find all his music on Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you listen to music!
Lesa is Sean's mom and Dave is Sean’s step dad. Lesa and Dave met when Sean's older brother and Dave's son were playing basketball together in high school. The two dated for a while until one day, Sean and Adam met. Sean became friends with Adam, Dave's youngest, in high school and Sean invited him over to his mom's house to play basketball. Upon their arrival, Adam said, “Hey, that's my dads truck!” and Sean said, “And that's my mom's house!” Dave is a teacher in the Cedar Rapids school district. It is difficult for Dave and Lesa to leave the house without being recognized because Dave is loved by so many of his past students. One day, when Sean and Kylie were in KC, they met someone out of the blue who had Dave as a teacher and absolutely loved him. Dave and Lesa are great examples of love to Sean and Kylie. They both enjoy gardening, which Kylie is trying to pick up, going on walks, and movie nights at home. Dave has been a great step-dad to Sean and whenever he comes to visit Kansas City, he only leaves after he's fixed a few things on Kylie's list. Lesa has already been a great mother-in-law to Kylie. Lesa was a huge part of dress shopping and venue shopping. She is always there to remind you of something you forgot or bring up ideas that you wouldn’t have thought of on your own. Sean and Kylie are so appreciative of Dave and Lesa’s help during the planning of this day!
Shirley and Bob (Dale) are Kylie's grandparents. They met when Shirley was 15 and Bob was 18. The two got married when Shirley turned 18 and shortly after, Bob was drafted. Shirley recalls that all of her friend's husbands were drafted so she didn't feel alone during this time. Bob has a lot of great stories from being in the military. Shirley and her friend once drove all the way to the Carolina's from Iowa to visit their husbands.
Bob and Shirley currently reside in Marion, Iowa where they raised Kylie's dad and uncle. They moved into a retirement home about 5 years ago and have been crowned the prom king and queen of the complex. They are both the most kind, helpful and supportive people you'll ever meet. Whenever Kylie calls them to chat, they always make sure Kylie tells Sean that they love both her and him before they hang up.
