"We didn't meet in a movie, we met in real life."

"The path that led to us." -Noah's Story

In the fall of 2017 I was attending Lincoln University in Jefferson City and was majoring in psychology. I spent a lot of my free time with my brothers from the best fraternity in the world and decided to attend a trip to Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. It took some convincing from my brothers but it would be a choice that I would end up being so grateful for, I wasn't big on traveling, but had been learning how to DJ and was needed for the performance that my frat would be putting on for the step show. The night went as expected and we won the show with basically no competition as we always do.... and whether Kyra believes this or not, I saw her in the crowd and was really hoping I would see her again later at one of the parties we would attend. The night goes on and I am having a pretty good time after the win, confidence high! We arrive at the NUPE house and start achieving! I usually don't have much confidence talking to women, but I was feeling confident from the win and liquid courage and approached a beautiful woman and asked her name because that all I could think of. I spent the rest of the night getting to know Kyra and was considered a lost cause to my brothers. I asked for her number and she agreed to give me a chance to become friends! At this time we were both in the middle of college and began speaking on a daily basis! She became my best friend and I spent every single week trying to find time to see her and every single weekend driving to Carbondale or patiently awaiting her arrival to Jefferson City! I only went on one trip out of state as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and I am so grateful that I got to meet the love of my life.

The Beginning of our Forever - Kyra’s Story

It was homecoming week at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. I was attending dance practices and performances through the week to prepare for the homecoming parade and halftime show for our football game.

Carissa and I decided to attend the Step Show together to watch the show and have fun before the parade in the morning. While waiting for the show to start, I noticed Noah walking down the aisle towards the stage in his fraternity jacket. I turned to Carissa and told her immediately I needed to find him and talk to him that night!

Later on at the after party, I arrived to the party with a group of friends with Carissa. The vibes were vibing! If you know, you know! Everyone was everywhere having a good time! Inbetween talking with my friends, Noah and I ended up in the same room, next to each other and we danced together.

As I was leaving to join my friends, Noah grabbed my hand and asked “what’s your name?” In that exact moment, I felt a spark inside and thought this was going to change everything. We were inseparably the rest of the night. We spent the rest of the party talking about our family, where we’re from, our degrees and our campus life at college.

We exchanged phone numbers before leaving the party which turned into visiting each other on the weekends inbetween my football games during the rest of the season. Fast forward through 3 years of long distance while finishing our degrees, it’s been history ever since. One of the best decisions I made in this life was going to that Step Show on October 17, 2017. I found my future husband and can’t wait to say I Do!
