It’s December 12, 2019. The people of Boston were gearing up for the next three months of cold, frozen gray slush while eagerly chatting about Tom Brady once again in the playoffs. No one had ever even thought about disinfecting their groceries or worried about running out of toilet paper. Truly a wonderful, magical time in Massachusetts. After a late night of working in Copley, Ty headed over to Lolita’s. It was here on this frigid night in Back Bay in a basement bar that he would meet Kyra for the first time. They shared many margaritas, looked at embarrassing driver’s licenses, and excitedly chatted the night away. Eventually, Ty walked Kyra to the train where she would play the night over in her head and think on about how great that Long Island (pronounced Lawn-guy-lan) guy was the whole ride to Needham. Little did either of these chilly, star crossed, soon-to-be lovebirds know this was the last First Date they would ever go on. Two weeks had gone by and they had already been on two more dates and sent hundreds of texts and Instagram DMs with deep and insightful comments like, “omg this is so you”. Ty then decided to leave a vacation in Nashville and come back to Boston for NYE where he met Kyra at a house party. It was here he was sized up by the scariest and most formidable people to ever brunch in Southie, the former graduates of Needham High, aka Kyra’s friends. Somehow, Ty must have passed their test of approval as he and Kyra got to watch the ball drop and take their first ever photo together (see the timeline for embarrassing proof). A few more weeks of grabbing drinks at Bell in Hand, ice skating, and seeing a concert at the House of Blues, and Kyra was off for one of her many, MANY, trips around the world. It was only after a month of FaceTiming in different hemispheres and coming back from Southeast Asia that Kyra would ask the question most millennial men in Boston in their 20’s dread, “What are we???” It was on this day, February 29th, that Ty would make the greatest decision he has ever made and proclaim to Kyra that he would be honored if she would be his girlfriend. The two, positively giddy, began doing what every Type A relationship does and planning out all the cool activities and bars and dates they would go on in March of 2020…and the rest is history.

Our Story - TY’S VERSION

Now, let me tell you what actually happened…. Ty and I met how every modern love story meets…on Hinge. I was living at home with my parents, applying to nursing jobs and my mom encouraged me to download the app and go on some dates. I honestly think she was worried about how much time I was spending in the suburbs. Ty answered my prompt and we agreed on the best Big Bootie Remix. He had a picture holding a puppy and his smile was infatuating. We went on our first date and got margaritas and I knew right away there was something special. Maybe it was partially because we found out we had the same birthday. I wasn’t sure if he was stalking me or if it was a sign that we were meant to be. We went on a lot of dates pretty quickly after meeting. I got my first job a few weeks later and he was the first person I called to tell. I went on a trip with my dad and Alanna and Ty gave me a book before I left. He wrote on the inside cover “cherish every minute and I’ll think of you for every second while you’re gone” and I think right there, I knew that he would forever change my life. At the beginning of our relationship Covid hit. I was a new nurse trying to get my feet under me and Ty went home to Long Island. Although that was such a difficult time for everyone, it was easier because I had Ty. We jokingly said if we can make it through that we could make it through anything. About a year after we met, Ty and I were walking on a beach in Miami and I told him I wanted to become a travel nurse. I explained that I would love for him to come with me, but I understood if he didn’t want to. Travel nursing was something I always wanted to do and I was going to do it. I said we could obviously make the distance work if that was the best thing for us. And without hesitation, Ty said he would come with. From there began the best journey of our lives. We were crazy enough to move in together for the first time, in a different city while we both started new jobs. That’s just who we are. Since then, we’ve had the privilege to live in five cities together (and counting) and explore so many parts of this country and world. We’ve grown so much as individuals and a couple during this adventure. Although we don’t know our next stop on our journey, or when our final destination will occur, I know that there is nobody else I would want in the passenger seat with me.
