Engaged: Journey to Becoming “The Carters”

On Saturday, November 23, 2025, DeVaunt surprised L’Oreal with the proposal of a lifetime! What L’Oreal anticipated to be just another weekly date night for the couple - a tradition that they, in part, credit for their reputation of ‘happiest couple alive’ - turned out to be a life changing moment for them both.

L’Oreal and DeVaunt traveled to Weehawken, NJ for dinner. While some may take that as a giveaway that pointed to a special moment, it truly wasn’t. One of the couple’s first dates involved playing a game (that they made up!) where they would drive until they decided on something to eat; would you believe me if I told you that they aimlessly drove to the edge of Pennsylvania only to end up at a Wendy’s? You may be thinking that the name and caliber of the restaurant, Haven, one of DeVaunt’s favorites, could have been a giveaway that there was something different on that evening, perhaps? Well, let L’Oreal tell it, DeVaunt spares no expense to enhance the happiness of the woman he loves. And the evening of their engagement was no exception.

Upon arriving to the restaurant, DeVaunt led L’Oreal by the hand to the pier, telling her of his hopes for their shared future. Loving the view, but wanting to get inside because of the weather, L’Oreal requested they talk inside at the table. Although he could tell she was prepared to motion towards the main entrance to the restaurant, DeVaunt refused to let her hand go, faced her and said, “What if I were to propose right here, right now?”

It’s unclear whether or not L’Oreal fully comprehended what he was asking or how serious he was about the question, but it was certain that a new idea had truly come into focus. You could see it in her face that L’Oreal’s priority shifted from going inside the restaurant to pursuing what DeVaunt was offering: a moment to acknowledge the depth of his love. As she stood in silence, he gestured for her to follow as he walked backwards, pulling her along and into position.

She was now in eye shot of the large bouquet of red roses, the arrangement of candles so meticulously placed to form the shape of a heart, and rose petals scattered about it all. He watched her mind catch up to where his heart had always been. She was now still enough to hear the footsteps and whispers of people behind her, eager to join in the circle of celebration. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. DeVaunt continued to say words that made the moment so romantic then kneeled down on one knee and asked, “L’O, will you marry me?”

For that moment, the woman who was in a hurry to get out of the cold was now the woman who couldn’t be shaken, by man or by wind. For one second, the woman who always has a lot to say became speechless. She wasn’t stuck. She wasn’t shocked. She was full. She’d digested all he was saying and the year long courtship played like an old film in her mind. She saw the shared moment of herself and him, and the film continued. She saw the future that he’d expressed minutes earlier and beyond. She saw the vision as if she, too, had always known. She saw God’s promises in action through their union and said, “YES!” She danced too.

Loved ones from both sides cheered as they couple kissed, hugged and L’Oreal showed off her ring. (STUNNING!) A photographer took photos to commemorate the moment that changed it all for the young couple. Photos with family and friends, speaking words of love and support as they send them off into the phase of ‘being engaged’ were taken with the backdrop of the Hudson River, overlooking the New York skyline.
