Our Wedding

We were in Lakewood for the long Fourth of July weekend. On Saturday, Mike and I started off the weekend at Cat &amp; Mo’s wedding, while the kids had a sleepover with Mike's nieces, Liv &amp; Lulu. We all had so much fun and stayed up too late! Sunday, we went to a party with Mike's co-workers. Hotdogs and hamburgers, swimming, bee stings, and of course, fireworks…another late night. Monday was a recovery day. We all took a nice long nap and didn’t wake up until about 4:00. We had planned on heading to the beach, but I thought by the time we loaded the car, drove, found parking, walked to the beach, and found a spot there on a holiday weekend, that we’d have to basically turn around and head home. I thought we’d be able to have a lot more fun time if we just went downstairs to the pool at Mike's. I didn’t know it, but I basically spoiled the surprise.&nbsp; After we went swimming, I made chicken nuggets for the kids while Mike &amp; Penny ran to pick up sushi. Mike “found” a message in a bottle by his car and gave it to Penny, but suggested she wait until they got home to read it. They got home just as I pulled the chicken nuggets out of the oven. They told me about the bottle, so Penny got it and took the letter out. She, Finn and I were leaning over the counter reading it. I looked back at Mike a couple times as if to say, “did you do this?” But he just shrugged it off and shook his head. The note was about how the things you send out into the waves eventually come back to you. It was very sweet! When we were done reading it, Mike told the kids that I had been gone from his life for a long time, and was now back in it. And that they, too, were now a part of his life. This is when I finally caught on to what was happening. Then, Mike dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him! I replied “Yes!” immediately.&nbsp; Mike wanted the kids to be involved, but knew that if they knew the plan, they would spoil the surprise, so they had to be inadvertently involved. He was planning on putting the bottle near them on the beach for them to find, but again, I ruined that. Mike said that when the beach trip didn’t happen, he decided to ask me at home because he “didn’t want to wait any longer!” It was real life, and it was wonderful!

This hotel is the closest to our reception hall (just 4 miles away), but has limited availability, so book soon! We will provide transportation from here to the reception and back again at the end of the evening.

Sauder Heritage Inn

The Hampton, in Defiance, is a 25-minute drive away from Archbold and our reception hall, with many nearby restaurants. At this point in time, we may only be able to provide transportation from the reception hall back to the Hampton at the end of the evening.
