There are so many awesome breweries in KC. Here are a few favorites:
Casual Animal Brewing: Small-batch session beers are the specialty at this cozy Crossroads hangout.
City Barrel: The newest brewery in the Crossroads specializes in interesting beers, from the hoppy to the sour to the wild.
Border Brewing Company: Border produces a wide variety of beer styles that are approachable and complex in flavor, perfect for both amateurs and aficionados.
Brewery Emperial: Known for its satisfying tap tastes, expansive patio and exceptional dining menu. Great vibes, but outdoor seating!
Double Shift Brewing Company: Originally founded as a “second shift” job by a local firefighter, Double Shift is a laid-back brewery that crafts unique beers of all kinds.
Torn Label Brewing Company: Torn Label’s 15-barrel brewhouse and stellar limited release selections make it a popular weekend destination.
Parlor is a modern food hall on 3 levels offering a variety of 7 casual & creative dining options, plus 2 bars. Parlor is only a 5 minute walk from our venue and is another fun option that can accommodate a larger crowd. Mother Clucker can't be beat!
Boulevard Brewing Co is a KC staple. If you have free time, we HIGHLY recommend reserving a tour or stopping by for some local brews and games. If you're with a large group, this is a great spot to meet up.
Be sure to try a Boulevard Wheat (Grant's favorite), Tank 7, or Quirk (a seltzer Laney likes).
Up-Down is an arcade bar in Kansas City's Crossroads featuring arcade video games, pinball, skee-ball, and a wide craft beer & cocktail selection.
If you head home to freshen up and are looking for a quick cocktail spot, Percheron opens at 4pm. Percheron is a seasonal rooftop bar at Crossroads Hotel with one of the city’s most iconic views.
King G is just a 3 minute walk from our reception venue with great drinks and a fun, young crowd. The bar closes at 1:30 am if you are looking for a post-reception spot!
The Power & Light District offers a variety of fun bar & food options! A couple crowd favorites:
- PBR Big Sky: ride the bull! (3 am)
- McFaddens: late night bites (2 am)
- Howl at the Moon: dueling piano bar (3 am)
- Mosaic: nightclub with DJs (3 am)
Kansas City is known for its Jazz scene and Green Lady Lounge is an iconic club that offers retro vibes with live music every night - a great night cap for sure (closes at 3 am)!
Located in the heart of the Crossroads, Society is an art-driven restaurant, bar and event space with a sophisticated edge.
If it's your first time in Kansas City, you HAVE to try the legendary BBQ. Jack Stack is a local classic and is near the hotel block & reception venue.
Grant's order: Poor Russ with cheesy corn
Laney's order: Ribs with cheesy corn...seriously get the cheesy corn
If you're down for a drive, here are some of the other top spots in the city:
- Joe's KC is arguably the best in Kansas City - the original location is also in a gas station! Order a Z Man with fries (the seasoning is to die for).
- Q39 is a newer, more modern twist on BBQ and has quickly become a crowd favorite.
- Arthur Bryant's as featured in Ted Lasso :).
- Gates is known for their award-winning sauce!
Town Topic is an authentic American diner that has been serving hamburgers in Kansas City for 75 years! Known as Andy Reid's favorite burger, their location at 20th & Broadway is open 24 hours for a late night bite!
*Note that Town Topic has a walk up window and no indoor seating
Grant and Laney's first date spot! The margaritas are deadly :)
Blue Sushi's menu has a mix of traditional sushi, sashimi, nigiri and Japanese-inspired entrées that will impress the pickiest eaters (like Laney). If fish isn't your thing, check out their vegan rolls!
Mildred's is one of our favorite coffee + breakfast spots!
The Rockhill Grille is a classic American restaurant. If you're hoping for a nicer dinner, look no further. Be sure to order the tater tots!
A great brunch spot near the hotel!
If you take the street car up to the River Market, Brown & Loe is the perfect brunch spot.

The National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri was opened in 1926 as the Liberty Memorial. In 2004, it was designated by the United States Congress as the country's official war memorial and museum dedicated to World War I.
If museums aren't your thing, be sure to still stop by to check out the awesome view (and spot where Laney & Grant got engaged)!
Take the street car up to the City Market farmers market: Saturdays & Sundays 8 am – 3 pm. Laney & Grant love hitting up the farmers markets around the city and supporting local vendors!
Check out some of the 34,500 pieces in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art's collection. The Nelson invites you to experience one of the country's pre-eminent cultural destinations. Fun fact: Grant and Laney both went on field trips to the Nelson growing up!
Stroll through 15 city blocks of Spanish-inspired architecture to discover dozens of fountains, shop trendy designer brands and dine at beloved restaurants. Grant & Laney's first apartment was located off of the Plaza!
Union Station is an architectural masterpiece with over 100 years of history and tons of attractions to offer. Each year, Union Station hosts world-class touring exhibitions on varying topics.
Union station is also home to an interactive planetarium, Science City and a theater showing educational documentaries, throwback classics, and family-friendly feature films. Science City Powered by Burns & McDonnell (Laney's company) features over 300 interactive exhibits and is host to countless STEM-based events.
Kauffman Stadium is home to the Kansas City Royals! One of Grant and Laney's first dates was actually at a baseball game with Laney's aunt Diane and uncle AJ. The couple also got to ditch school in 2015 to go to the Royals World Series parade together after a 30 year drought!
