The closet major airports are John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia (LGA), MacArthur Airport (ISP), and Newark Airport (EWR).
Macarthur is a smaller regional airport on Long island, Newark is a bit farther than the others in New Jersey.
Be aware!! If you are flying, plan for extra time driving down Long Island to catch your flight home! Traffic can make the drive 3-4 hours long (normally 2.5 hours) if you leave at a busy time.

This resort is located downtown on the beach! Walkable to many restaurants and shops.
Hampton Jitney
This connects Manhattan to Montauk. To view the full schedule and plan your trip, look for the “Montauk Line Eastbound” schedule. LIRR penn station
The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Train leaves from Penn Station in NYC or Jamaica Station if you’ve just arrived at JFK International airport. This is such an easy option as Montauk is always the very last stop! The train ride is about 3 hours long with many stops along the way.
While walking is an option, the 25-minute stroll isn’t the most scenic and can be inconvenient with luggage, taxis typically wait for arriving trains at the Montauk Station.
Car rental
Renting a car provides the most flexibility for your trip from NYC to Montauk. The drive takes approximately 3 hours, covering around 118 miles (190 km).
Renting a car allows you to explore the surrounding Hamptons at your leisure, without being tied to bus or train schedules.
