How We Met
It all started in 2018. I (Laura) had just moved down to NC for a new job and was very eager to make new friends, so I committed to say yes to any social opportunities. Some new friends from church invited me to a local dairy farm called Mapleview. A couple hours in, Will shows up with his adorable dog. Buster is typically excited to meet new people, as he is a therapy dog in training at the physical therapy clinic, but Buster & Laura hit it off instantly and Will knew he had to spend more time with her. A couple weeks go by and paths cross again. The next week, he asks if I want to join in for a weekly gathering of wine & dinner (it will later become known to me that this was the first and only of a weekly event). It ends up being 3 of us and after talking Will up, our friend Kayla leaves unexpectedly. Will and I shut the restaurant down as we discussed life and values and passions. As he walked me to my car and gave me a hug goodnight, I knew we were going to be more than friends.
That meeting led to a follow up date in our town of charming Hillsborough at Saratoga Grill. It wasn’t long until Laura and I came to realize what Buster already knew...we were meant for each other!

The Proposal
We were getting ready to drive to Virginia to spend Christmas with my (Laura) family. Before leaving, Will invited me over for brunch and our gift exchange. Will went first and his gifts started with a clue. I quickly realized he was sending me a scavenger hunt. This is a Wells family Christmas tradition and also something Will had done for my birthday. I find my first gift and keep searching, then notice that Will is filming me. I thought he was just being funny, so I thought nothing of it. I get to my last gift, which is a bag. He tells me to put it on and as I’m adjusting it, I notice the ring box and a note that has fallen to the floor. I pick up the note and Will is suddenly down on one knee! He asks me to marry him and I tearfully say yes, meanwhile Buster is playing with one of his toys in celebration in the background. Will further surprises me with one more gift. He got us a private tour of an alpaca farm (my favorite) on the way to Virginia. That night we celebrated with Sonic drive-in and with my family!
