It was a late afternoon when I arrived at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, on a business trip, prepared for a blur of meetings and deadlines. The hotel was merely a stop on my itinerary—or so I thought.
While walking through the hallway to my room, I heard music playing. When I looked up, Bryant, being the hotel’s Chief Engineer, was doing repairs on a room with the door open. Quiet yet confident, he was the man behind the scenes who ensured the hotel ran flawlessly. His role wasn't glamorous, but it was essential, and he took great pride in it.
I was having issues with getting the key to work, so I asked Bryant to help me. It was a minor inconvenience, yet it led to something I would never forget. Bryant arrived to fix the issue, and even kept me from having to walk to the front desk he was able to get me another key. There was something grounding about the way he explain the fix—his voice calm, his hands steady.
What started as small talk turned into something more. His passion for his work intrigued me along with the way he was dressed he, in turn, was captivated by my beauty. We had a lengthy conversation and exchanged numbers.
Life’s currents pulled us both in different directions. His world remained within the heartbeat of the hotel, while mine led to distant cities, ambitious projects, and the blur of constant travel.
Months passed, and though the two of us had lost touch, I would sometimes think of him when I drove by the hotel he worked at.
One day, while unpacking after yet another journey, I received a text. It was Bryant!!!!. In that moment during our conversation, I realized that while time and distance had kept us apart, the connection we shared was something that couldn’t be erased. And who knows? Perhaps the story wasn’t over just yet.
Once we reconnected after talking on the phone, we have been inseparable ever since.
