Q + A

What is the dress code?

Our dress code is smart semi-formal. Think polished but comfortable—suits or blazers for men; gowns and fine cocktail dresses or dressy jumpsuits for women. Need more to go off of than that? We've got you covered with our *Best Dressed Guest Guide* here: https://pin.it/5K7aK4Qyp

Do we have exclusive use of the venue?

Yes! Pousada Mosteiro Amares will be entirely ours for the wedding celebration, ensuring an intimate and private experience for all our guests.

What food will be served at the venue?

A delicious multi-course meal featuring local Portuguese cuisine will be served at the reception. A breakfast buffet and light meals will be covered for the duration of our stay at the Pousada. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know in advance!

Tell me about the wine! What region are we in?

Our wedding takes place in northern Portugal, in the Vinho Verde wine region. Vinho Verde, meaning "green wine" (referring to the lush climate where it's produced rather than its color), is known for its crisp, slightly effervescent white wines. These wines are light, refreshing, and often have notes of citrus and green apple—perfect for enjoying alongside Portuguese cuisine. If you're a wine lover, we highly recommend trying a glass (or two!) while you're here!

Do you have a wedding registry?

Your presence at our wedding is the best gift we could ask for! We truly do not expect anything beyond celebrating with you.

What will the weather be like?

Early October in northern Portugal is mild and pleasant, with daytime highs around 70°F (21°C) and cooler evenings. We recommend bringing a light jacket or wrap for the evening festivities.

Okay, but why Portugal?

Our love affair with Portugal kicked off with our engagement on the beautiful coastline of Sintra, planned in secret entirely by Jared. After soaking up the vibrant energy of Sintra, Lisbon and the breathtaking Douro Valley, we made our way to Porto—where we’ll soon be gathering to kick off our wedding festivities! One late night in Porto, we returned to our Airbnb when we heard two cheerful voices behind us shout, “Hey, hold that door! Right behind you!” Two charming older ladies emerged from an Uber, and before we knew it, we were all sharing stories over glasses of port in the common lounge. These ladies from Savannah, Georgia, regaled us with tales of a wedding they had just attended—one of their daughters had just married a Portuguese man. They described the celebration as if it were a grand spectacle: delicious food piled high, drinks flowing endlessly, and dancing that went on well into the morning. We realized we wanted to create a similar experience for our own wedding. Jared and I have always been passionate about travel, and we can’t wait to share this incredibly special place and experience with all of you. Memories from a childhood trip to the Dominican Republic with Laurel’s extended family have always been core to her, and we’re looking forward to bringing both of our families together to share something similar. We’re thrilled to create unforgettable moments with the people we love in Portugal! Plus port. Definitely port.
