Our Wedding

First Contact: At Embry-Riddle, where the female to male ratio was 1:6, many women ignored the men. Such was the case on nice Fall 2014 afternoon when Tyler was walking back to his dorm. He knew of a beautiful woman named Lauren, but had never officially met her until this day. As she passed Tyler gave a courteous greeting of “Hello”, by which Lauren, hands firmly gripping her backpack straps, didn’t even look at Tyler and kept walking.&nbsp; Status: failed Second Contact: Fast forward to August 2016 at the fraternity ice cream social in the Embry-Riddle quad. Tyler was there recruiting for his fraternity and Lauren had just returned from studying abroad on Semester at Sea. Tyler noticed that his fraternity brother Dec was chatting with a group of friends and jumped into the conversation. Lauren and her friends were discussing butt shapes and butts from her study abroad. Dec introduced Tyler to the group, at which point Lauren officially met Tyler. At the end of the conversation, Lauren promised Dec brownies later that week.&nbsp; Status: kind of a success Third Contact: Later that week, Lauren was walking across the bridge near the modern physics lab as Tyler was passing by. She noticed a smile across his face as he drew near. Tyler, who remembered that Lauren had made brownies for Dec, jokingly asked “Hey where are my brownies?”. Tyler hoped that Lauren would respond and to his surprise Lauren said “Oh I didn’t know you wanted brownies. Would you like me to make you some?”. Tyler, noticing a cute smirk across Lauren’s face responded with a shy “yes”. Not wanting the moment to pass, Tyler said “how will I know when the brownies are ready?” and Lauren responded, “well we better exchange numbers” and Tyler responded, “better yet, let’s exchange snapchats.” Status: Success

What should I wear?

The wedding is southwest themed. Also, Blame Her Ranch is an outside venue, and you will be walking between the ceremony and reception and sturdy shoes are recommended (i.e. no stilettos). August is also a moderately hot month in Ribera, NM, with average temperature varying between 80.2°F and 57.9°F. The attire is semi-formal. Now what exactly does “semi-formal” mean? In short, the event's formality falls somewhere in the mid to more-casual range of the dress code spectrum. It's not as fancy as a "black tie" wedding, but it's not the kind of soirée where anything goes, either.

Can we bring kids?

While we love all of the children in our lives, we have decided to keep our wedding and reception an adults-only event.

Getting to Santa Fe from the airport

Since New Mexico is a rural state with many attractions and sites spread out over many miles, renting a car is the way to go for anyone looking to do day trips outside city limits. Alternatively, let someone else take the wheel. <a href="https://groometransportation.com/santa-fe/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Groome Transportation</a> makes 11 roundtrips daily from the airport to Santa Fe and runs about $36 for a one-way fare. <a href="https://abqexpressshuttle.rural-transit.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Abq Express</a> is a car service that is also available, with prices starting at $94. For folks on a budget adventure, a bus ride from the airport to a <a href="https://www.riometro.org/215/Santa-Fe-Depot" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Rail Runner Station</a>, the state’s commuter train, will keep your cost around $10. Coming in on a weekday? Hop on the city bus – the ABQ Ride Route 250 – to the Downtown Albuquerque Rail Runner Station. Or, if you’re arriving on a Saturday, take bus Route 50. However, note that on Sundays the train doesn’t run.

The Downtown area of Santa Fe is popular among tourists for good reason. It offers the most attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas in the city. We recommend staying in the Downtown area of Santa Fe at a hotel or Airbnb. <a href="https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/sfehihf-hilton-santa-fe-historic-plaza/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">﻿Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza</a> is the preferred hotel. The center of the Downtown area is Central Square, which is ideal for people watching, and there are museums and historical sites almost everywhere you look in Downtown. Downtown also offers a good range of bars, clubs, restaurants, and breweries. It’s also busy at all hours, which makes it really safe for tourists, and offers good transport links in and out of the city.

Highly encourage staying in the Downtown area of Santa Fe at a hotel or Airbnb.

Book early and carve out a day for the wildest ride in Santa Fe. The centerpiece of the Meow Wolf Art Complex is <a href="https://meowwolf.com/visit/santa-fe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The House of Eternal Return</a>, a permanent installation where you can easily imagine what Alice felt like when she chased that rabbit&nbsp;– totally lost, but in the most magical way. With 20,000 sq ft for visitors of any age to explore, touch, climb and take pictures in, the scope of the journey is really up to the individual.

Best Things to do in Santa Fe

If you've been hankering for a trip to another dimension but have yet to find a portal, the House of Eternal Return by Meow Wolf could be the place for you. The premise here is quite ingenious: visitors get to explore a recreated Victorian house for clues related to the disappearance of a Californian family, following a narrative that leads deeper into fragmented bits of a multiverse (often via secret passages), all of which are unique, interactive art installations. Created by the Santa Fe art collective Meow Wolf in an old bowling alley (donated by Game of Thrones author George RR Martin), the space is large enough that you could spend several hours here – or visits – trying to crack the code to the safe at the top of the stairs, reading every detail of Mom's diary or finding inspiration yourself in the makerspace at the entrance. Weekend nights see live-music shows at the heart of this compelling imaginary world.

Meow Wolf Santa Fe

For more than 400 years, the Plaza has stood at the heart of Santa Fe. Originally it marked the far northern end of the Camino Real from Mexico; later, it was the goal for wagons heading west along the Santa Fe Trail. Today, this grassy square is peopled by tourists wandering from museum to margarita, food vendors, skateboarding kids and street musicians. Beneath the portico of the Palace of the Governors, along its northern side, Native Americans sell jewelry and pottery.

Santa Fe Plaza

This top-quality museum sets out to trace the origins and history of the various Native American peoples of the entire Southwest, and explain and illuminate their widely differing cultural traditions. Pueblo, Navajo and Apache interviewees describe the contemporary realities each group now faces, while a truly superb collection of ceramics, modern and ancient, is complemented by stimulating temporary displays.

Museum of Indian Arts & Culture

With 10 beautifully lit galleries in a rambling 20th-century adobe, this museum boasts the world's largest collection of O'Keeffe’s work. She’s best known for her luminous New Mexican landscapes, but the changing exhibitions here range through her entire career, from her early years through to her time at Ghost Ranch. Major museums worldwide own her most famous canvases, so you may not see familiar paintings, but you’re sure to be bowled over by the thick brushwork and transcendent colors on show.

Georgia O'Keeffe Museum

The oldest public building in the US, this low-slung adobe complex began as home to New Mexico’s first Spanish governor in 1610. It was occupied by Pueblo Indians following their revolt in 1680, and after 1846 became the seat of the US Territory’s earliest governors. During research the Palace was undergoing renovations; expect a new look after its scheduled 2020 reopening. The adjoining New Mexico History Museum engagingly tells the story of the state, beginning with the Spanish arrival in the 1500s.

Santa Fe’s French-born bishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy – hero of Willa Cather's Death Comes for the Archbishop – set about building this cathedral in 1869. Its Romanesque exterior might seem more suited to Europe than the Wild West, but the Hispanic altarpiece inside lends a real New Mexican flavor. A side chapel holds a diminutive Madonna statue that was taken into exile following the Pueblo Revolt, and has been known since the Spaniards’ triumphant return in 1692 as La Conquistadora.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi

New Mexico’s State Capitol, informally known as the Roundhouse, was laid out in the shape of the state symbol – also the emblem of Zia Pueblo – in 1966. Home to the state legislature, which sits for 60 days in even-numbered years and just 30 in odd years, it holds one of the finest (free) art collections in New Mexico. New Mexico State Capitol

Built in 1878 for the Sisters of Loretto, this tiny Gothic chapel is famous as the site of St Joseph's Miraculous Staircase, a spiraling and apparently unsupported wooden staircase added by a mysterious young carpenter who vanished without giving the astonished nuns his name. The chapel is no longer consecrated and can be rented for (nondenominational) weddings.
