Accommodations

Driving:If you are driving, enjoy the early fall colors as you wind through Northern Michigan to reach this special coastal town. Trust us, those long miles in the car will be well worth it once you arrive! Flying:If you are planning to travel by aircraft, we recommend flying into Traverse City (TVC) or Pellston (PLN) airports. You will still have to drive into Charlevoix and may require a rental car or a friend to pick you up! It is about 50 miles from Traverse City and 40 miles from Pellston. Unfortunately, ride share companies are quite limited in this area and we recommend securing your ground transportation ahead of time-- there are rental car companies onsite. Once you arrive, kick your feet up and relax. Check out our "Things to Do" page for some activities we recommend or simply take a stroll by the lake-- you may find a Petoskey stone or two.

Getting Here

Our charming town is full of things to do while you visit. Spend time on the lake, in the woods or at the golf course. Stroll through downtown and grab a bite to eat, have some libations or shop for your next favorite sweater. Be sure not to miss our historic lighthouse-- and it's not a trip to Charlevoix without getting stuck by the drawbridge! If you're feeling really adventurous, you may enjoy a day trip to Mackinac Island or walk across the Sky Bridge at Boyne Mountain.

Streets lined with coffee shops, book shops, clothing shops galore! There is something for everyone. Walk down by the marina, hang in the park, or get an ice cream cone. Charlevoix Cinema III has showtimes for the whole family. There is plenty to do in the heart of this town.

Downtown Charlevoix

A historic landmark and beloved marker of our town located at Lake Michigan Beach where you will find easy public parking and plenty of room to roam the lakeshore. Charlevoix South Pier Lighthouse

Mt. McSauba is our beloved "mountain" of Charlevoix. Small enough to hike up in a matter of minutes and get an incredible view. There is also a series of wooded trails that flank the coast. Check out the sand dunes, head down to the water or even bring your best disc golf skills as they have a full course available to the public.

Northern Michigan is a premier destination for anyone who loves the game, whether you're a scratch golfer or just picking it up-- be sure not to miss out on some excellent local tracks. To name a few: Charlevoix Country Club (now Charlevoix Golf and Fitness), Charlevoix Golf Club (our municipal course), Dunmaglas, Antrim Dells, Bay Harbor and the Boyne Resorts.

Golf

With crystal clear, fresh (no salt!) waters, getting out on the lake is a MUST. There are some local rental companies who can hook you up with kayaks, paddleboards, boats and jet skis. Or simply find yourself at one of our many local beaches to take a swim or dip your feet in. Be sure to look for Petoskey Stones or beach glass, so many treasures to be found.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry

On Thursdays from May through October come downtown to meet our local vendors for the Farmer's Market. Located on Bridge Street (the main drag) from 8 am to 1 pm.

Charlevoix Farmer's Market

Earl Young created homes to seamlessly blend into their surrounding landscapes without the use of blueprints. His designs are sprinkled into our community. He would find unique stones and boulders, burying them or hiding them in secrete locations in the lake to use for future projects. Check out the self guided walking tour or be sure to be on the lookout while driving around.

Earl Young Mushroom Houses

Originating as a model working dairy farm to test equipment prior to being sold in the Sears Catalog, this historic location is worth checking out. Before becoming a destination wedding venue, it was known for hosting world-renowned artists such as Ozzy Osborne, Aerosmith, Metallica, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and so many others. "Castle Farms offers the chance to explore acres of gardens, learn over a century of history, view entrancing collections, discover dragons near an enchanted forest, experience Michigan’s largest outdoor model railroad, and taste wine from 1918 Cellars!"

"Venture along the 1,200-foot-long, 118-foot-high pedestrian bridge between McLouth and Disciples Ridge peaks, overlooking the Boyne Valley at Boyne Mountain Resort." This suspension bridge is sure to take your breath away.

SkyBridge Michigan

Have you ever dreamed of a quaint island with shops, bars and endless picturesque views but without all the busy noise of traffic zooming by? Mackinac Island is cut straight out of a storybook. There are no cars, so you will rely on horse-drawn carriages, bicycles or your own two feet to get you where you need to go. Check out the historic Fort, Arch Rock and of course the Grand Hotel where Christopher Reeve filmed Somewhere in Time.
