Our Wedding

Lauren and Nate both “swiped right” on each other on an online dating app at the beginning of 2020. They talked for a little bit online until they decided to meet up for what Lauren calls a “first date” but as what Nate describes as a “first getting to know a you” on March 15, 2020. Lauren was quite nervous and almost canceled but rather decided to push that date back by an hour and in typical Lauren fashion told Nate, “I’m tired and want to take a quick nap, can we meet an hour later than planned?” That gave Lauren enough time to relax and regroup. Luckily they both showed up an hour later than what was was originally planned and went to a local place to play darts. Still unsure if it was the nerves that made her do good or she was just really trying hard to impress him, but Lauren beat Nate and Nate was intrigued by who this “all star” darts player was and he wanted to continue on to the next date.Unfortunately two days after our first “getting to know you” COVID hit La Crosse and on March 17, 2020 the city was in complete lock down unless you were leaving your house for work or for something essential. Lauren and Nate wanted to continue to get to know each other so they had at home dates of game nights, taking turns cooking each other dinner, puzzling, painting, play dates with our dogs O’Malley and Koda who are now best friends, and movie nights. It’s pretty safe to say Lauren and Nate spent way more time together than most people in the early stages of dating due to not being able to go on dates in public and social distancing from their friends and family during the early stages of the pandemic.Although they had such good times and memories together, they were also faced with hardships they both had to overcome together. The hard times started with the passing of Nate’s dog at a young age. Then the passing of Nate’s aunt followed by the passing of Lauren’s mother, and lastly the passing of Nate’s grandma. All of this happened within the first year of dating and they are very thankful they had each other during these times for mental and emotional support.As time went on, COVID started improving, and they were able to do a lot more together including meeting each other’s families which included a family vacation to Duluth, MN and a road trip out to Bismarck and Elgin, ND to meet Nates extended family. This also included Lauren’s dad and sister joining for Ulrich Thanksgiving, and driving to Milwaukee to meet more of Lauren’s family. They were finally able to meet each other’s friends too.They have also accomplished a lot in their past two years together. Lauren got a new position at work allowing for better hours and more time together, they did a complete kitchen demolition and renovation on Nate’s house, and sold Lauren’s house. In addition to these accomplishments they look forward to their future goals of buying a boat, owning a lake house in the future, and doing more traveling together. With everything they have been through in the past 3 years, they can’t wait to see what life brings them in the upcoming years.
