Meant to Meet

Manny and Lauren’s story began long before they realized it. Both attended the same elementary school for kindergarten and first grade, and they even lived in the same neighborhood.   After first grade, Lauren moved to a different school district. A few years later, Manny’s family also relocated to the same area. Though they lived close by, it wasn’t until the first day of their freshman year that their paths crossed again—in their first-hour class. Lauren, fashionably late because of her older brother, walked into the room where everyone was already seated. Her eyes met Manny’s, and from that moment, a strong friendship was born.   It wasn’t until sophomore year that Manny made his move—he asked Lauren to homecoming. From then on, their story truly began.   From high school dances to the challenges of long-distance, they grew closer. Their journey has taken them from Oxford, MS, to Washington, D.C., and now, 12 years later, they continue building their lives together.
