How We Met

An Unordinary Wednesday

It was a cold,&nbsp;January Wednesday night.&nbsp; To Lauren, there was nothing different about this Wednesday; she had gone to class during the first part of the day and then to work for the evening.

 



While at work, her friend invited her to a three-on-three, group blind date.&nbsp; Lauren’s friend had met a guy the weekend before and wanted an excuse to hang out with him in a group setting. &nbsp;Lauren wasn’t excited about it; she instead wanted to stay in and cuddle up to a movie and glass of wine.&nbsp; The good friend in Lauren took over&nbsp;though,&nbsp;and&nbsp;accepted her friend’s invitation.

 





On the other end of the spectrum was Omar. &nbsp;He was also asked to partake on a group blind date by his coworker.&nbsp; He accepted without much hesitation or second thought.

 





It was 9pm and time for both groups to head to the classy and world-renowned, Yard House restaurant.&nbsp; The plan was for the three guys and three girls to meet up and get to know each other over dinner and drinks and then go back home.&nbsp; It was to be a mellow night of socializing and making new friends.

 





The guys arrived first, so they went to the bar for some initial drinks. They needed something mellow and smooth to chip away at the nerves.&nbsp; Patron tequila shots were the drink of choice.

 





The girls arrived shortly after the first round of drinks.&nbsp; The boys immediately noticed that there were only two girls.&nbsp; To Omar’s horror, he was quickly made aware that his date was the one that decided to stay in at the last minute.&nbsp; Not wanting to leave and risk ruining the vibe for the rest of the group, but also not wanting to be the fifth-wheel, he decided to stay back at the bar for a minute and make friends with a few extra Patron tequila shots.&nbsp; In a matter of no time, Omar was “good to go.”

 





The five-person date went surprisingly well with lots of conversation and laughter.&nbsp; The only problem was that Omar was feeling a strong attraction for his friend’s date, Lauren.&nbsp; When the girls excused themselves for a “potty break,” he knew what he had to do.

 





He looked at his friend straight in the eyes and said,

 





“Friend, I have to be paired with Lauren.&nbsp; We are meant to be.”

 





 Omar and Lauren went on their own date the very next day and hung out every day for the remainder of that month.&nbsp; To this day, they live their perfect life together.

A Love Story in the Making

Omar and Lauren met at The Yard House restaurant in Roseville, while on a group date.&nbsp; Based on the success of that night, they went on their own private date the next day and immediately started their relationship.

 



They had been dating for six months when Omar came to a crossroads with a career opportunity that would require he move to the San Francisco Bay Area.&nbsp; After talking it over, the couple decided to take on the challenge of a distance relationship.

 









The distance was surprisingly easy to manage and they continued to grow during this time.&nbsp; When it was time for Lauren to move to a new city to finish her degree and seek professional employment, the Bay Area was an easy choice.

 









They were together again!&nbsp; This time&nbsp;though, they had decided that it was time to put their relationship through the ultimate test of living together.&nbsp; They moved in together and focused on creating a new lifestyle together.

 









During this time, Lauren had graduated college and began&nbsp;working on her accounting career, while Omar had taken a few promotions and was feeling traction in his career growth.&nbsp; All was well with life except for one thing; they both hated that they didn’t share a last name.&nbsp; It was clear to Omar that it was time to marry his little bird.

 









Eventually, Omar chose the perfect engagement ring for Lauren and immediately began planning a proposal.&nbsp; He chose their favorite restaurant in Roseville and planned a surprise engagement party with all their friends for immediately after the dinner date.&nbsp; The date of the proposal was set and all he had to do was wait patiently for a couple months for the date to arrive.&nbsp; Everything was under control.

 









A day before they were to head to Roseville for Lauren’s surprise engagement, Lauren called Omar at work.&nbsp; What she said to Omar would change their lives overnight.

 









Lauren: “Hi babe.&nbsp; Can you talk?”

 







Omar: “Sure, but I’m on my way to a meeting, where I will be presenting.&nbsp; I only have a minute.”

 







Lauren: “Okay.&nbsp; I’m pregnant.”

 









As you can imagine, Omar was not able to present during his meeting.&nbsp; Instead, his team spent the hour celebrating and sharing dad stories.

 









Lauren had surprised Omar with the news of a baby one day, the next day Omar proposed to Lauren (she said yes), and that night Omar and Lauren surprised their friends with the news of their baby.&nbsp; It was a magical couple of&nbsp;days for them.

 









Both&nbsp;Omar and Lauren&nbsp;had always felt that their hearts had stayed in Roseville.&nbsp; With the news of a baby and a wedding now in the near future, they decided to relocate their lives back to Roseville.

 









They are now living in their home in Roseville, have their beautiful baby girl,&nbsp;Sofia, and are eagerly waiting for&nbsp;October 13th to arrive;&nbsp;the day they finally get to share a last name.
