HOW THEY MET
On a warm June night in 2015, both Lauren and Danny were out for a fun night with their respective friends. Neither party was looking to meet anyone that night, although someone in particular was so opposed to the idea that it’s actually rather amazing the other someone is sitting here writing this blurb about “how we met” for our wedding website.
Anyway, with a little liquid courage and some coaxing from his friends, Danny decided to approach the group of girls and ask if he could buy them a drink. After a brief and pleasant exchange with Lauren’s friends and a curt exchange from Lauren (D: “Can I buy yo..” L: “Deep Eddy’s”), Danny had an in. Moments later, he was bellied up to the bar ordering Ruby Red vodka for the gang in hopes that his welcome wouldn’t be overstayed as long as drinks were being imbibed. Little did Lauren know, he was not mounting a bar tab for anyone but her. Danny can still remember what she was wearing that night and how her smile lit up the dimly lit back room of one of Uptown Dallas’s most prestigious establishments, Renfield’s Corner. After 60 minutes of being flirted at with discussions of his historic map collection, love of general aviation, and enthusiasm about commercial property investments, Lauren was convinced that she was talking to someone she would (hopefully) never see again. Much to her dismay, Lauren’s friend Annie thought the match was made in geek heaven and supplied Danny with the digits.
THE FIRST DATE
Many failed attempts later...
A determined Danny retrieves a reluctant Lauren from her apartment building mere minutes from his own and the greatest coup d’état in modern dating history was underway. Cool car – check; coffee date at quaint coffee shop – check; salmon shorts – check; beautiful girl from the bar who doesn’t know her courter's last name and agreed to the date as a result of consistent and relentless erosion of standards – check. Minutes into the date reality set in:
Oh my god, she doesn’t even notice that it’s an E39 M5…of course, no parking at Crooked Tree…I have no idea what I’m doing…she’s absolutely exquisite and I’m babbling moronically about god knows what…holy smokes, she’s younger than me…like a LOT younger than me…mental math – mental math – mental math - phew she’s legal…why didn’t I do laundry before this excursion, these shorts are abhorrent…I haven’t been on a proper date in my entire adult life…do I smell or is that her…no it’s definitely me…WHY IS THERE NO PARKING?!
The date was off to a brilliant start. With coffees in hand, D&L set off for a fun morning at Klyde Warren Park where they people watched while getting to know each other. After migrating to Savor- yes, I can pump a few cocktails into her and make this date last a little longer- they ended up meeting Lauren’s friends at Katy Trail Ice House. Apparently receiving high praise from trusted advisers, Lauren decided to see Danny again and they’ve been together ever since. While Danny knew from the moment he met Lauren that she was going to change the rest of his life, Lauren took some convincing (as any self-respecting person would). She eventually came around and now we are both so excited to be getting married and celebrating with each and every one of you.
