Our Story

Where it All Began

Lauren and Matt’s story started in the modern age of love—the dating app, Bumble. After a few weeks of charming messages, friendly banter, and persistent hints, Lauren finally agreed to go on a date with Matt. So, on June 14th, 2020, they met up for their first official date at Shake Shack in the Austin, TX Domain.

The two quickly discovered they had more in common than they ever expected, bonding over shared passions for art and hunting, and discovering that they had grown up in neighboring towns (Lauren in Cedar Park and Matt in Lago Vista). It turned out they knew some of the same people from high school.

After finishing their meal, they strolled through the Domain in the relentless Texas summer heat. What started as a quick search for a water fountain somehow turned into an adventure.

Just when it seemed like the date was winding down, neither of them wanted to say goodbye. So, they decided to keep the evening going, picking up a pizza and heading to Milburn Park to enjoy the cooler evening air. Lauren shared stories of growing up next to the park, taking a shortcut home through what she claimed was a “hidden trail” at the back of the park.

Using the excuse of night blindness, Matt made the first move to hold Lauren’s hand, and they eventually reached the “hidden trail.” To Lauren’s surprise (and Matt’s amusement), this “trail” was nothing more than… a drainage ditch. Not the most romantic landmark. In a horrible attempt to remedy the situation, Lauren guided Matt down the drainage ditch while making persistent jokes about murder. Thankfully, Matt wasn’t scared off by Lauren’s improvised true crime tour.

From Second Dates to Forever

It wasn’t until their second date at Texas Roadhouse that Matt and Lauren made their relationship official on June 19th, 2020.

A year into their relationship, they decided to take the next step and get a place together (though, let’s be honest, Matt was practically living there already!). For 3½ years, they shared all the highs, lows, and laughter that life together has to offer.

Those who know Matt and Lauren know that, while Matt may be the life of the party, Lauren is the funny one. They have a unique chemistry, effortlessly blending playful teasing and unwavering support.

They say a man should wait to propose until he's certain and she’s furious… and that’s exactly what Matt did. Planning a weekend getaway to Fredericksburg, Matt filled it with their favorite things: wine tasting, exploring the town, and even karaoke. Then, on the morning of December 16th, 2023, the two hiked up to the top of Enchanted Rock, where Matt got down on one knee and asked Lauren to spend forever with him.

And now, here they are, excited to celebrate the beginning of this new chapter with all of you at the wedding!
